I don't think you can "sponsor" someone for a student visa. The applicant needs to prove they have been accepted to an institution in the U.S. and either they (or their parents) must show they have sufficient funds during their planned stay.

i know she can get into a local school, but i was under the impression that there could be sponsorship for room and board etc. i just looked at my own university and it indicates that you can have a "family or private individual sponsor" so i will do some more investigating but it sounds like that sponsorhip is for the university as apart of the determining criteria for acceptance and then university acceptance is what rolls into visa petitioning.

i would have to pay her expenses including tuition but they are significantly reduced by her living with us. $2300 just for a semester at community college!

Is there a time window for the medical and police certificate for Thai filers? ie: not before the consulate gets the package? No sooner than 2 weeks before interview? etc.

I am about to fly out and we JUST got our NOA-2. Could I take the NOA-2 and get the police cert for my fiancee?

What about the medical? Is there a form the consulate sends her for that or can that be done at certain medical offices regardless?

Yes you can get the police certification & medical done with the NOA-2. The petition has been approved so it's the green-light sign.

AOS sent 1/24 and recieved today before 7 am (1/27). Now nail biting beings ...

Just received e-mail from USCIS stating they received the package, and it is being forwarded to the National Benefits Center. Being that she is here currently on a J-1 Visa, Taxes are proving to be very interesting this year. I have determined we can file jointly with the regular 1040A Long Form with a Publication 519 statement attached. I just have to figure out a way to record her earnings. I am thinking a 1099-MISC form from her "host" family will be the best method....

Sawasdee krub from Rayong!

This is exactly what we both needed to ease the tension. Get away from the nonsense whilest we wait for the NVC to do their thing and forward the package to the Embassy.

Even though I need the exercise... I wish I could have brought my motorcycle.

And the food! If there were shops like this back home... walking distance from my house, I'd be in BIG trouble!

Mandatory photo.

Nice Kimo, I went to Rayong about this time last year. Did you go to Koh Samet?

I liked going and buying seafood when the boats come in to the dock and then taking it to one of the little shacks by the beach for a nice breakfast.

Yep. Went to Koh Samet and a few of the other islands around there. Next up is Chang island. Going to spend a week or so unwinding before we head to get the police certification and see about the medical exam.

I still can't get over the food. I've had to keep a little diary (should have done this the first time) of the food I like.

Try Boo pad pong garee, if you like crab, I really enjoyed that one. A bit messy though.

It would seem that I did not plan accordingly. I did not bring enough chewing tobacco with me.

My question is:

Would it be legal to ask my brother to FedEx me a couple rolls of Copenhagen Long Cut tobacco (10 cans). It's not for resale but for personal use.

Is this possible?

I've been scouring the internet trying to locate any shops that might offer something. There are a few "maybes" in Pattaya but that's about it.

Anybody have this done? Using FedEx to have tobacco shipped to you in Thailand? If so, what precautions did you take?

If it's not possible... what's my next option, aside from cold turkey?

Thanks in advance.

I've heard lots of Thailand customs-related horror stories. I wouldn't ship anything there. Tobacco sounds like it would be problematic to ship. Check Thaivisa.com for info on where to find such a thing in Thailand. It's got to be there somewhere.

If all else fails, look at this as a golden opportunity to add a few years back onto your life expectancy. laughing.gif

You could be correct rsn. I may have to quit cold turkey. We are going to visit friends in Pattaya soon though. They may know where I can locate some swedish "almost" chewing tobacco.

We'll see.

On the bright side... we'll be going to Koh Larn island.

If it's going to be sweltering hot, where else to be than right there near the beach right? Man do I like this place!

There is a Scandinavian hotel near Nana that has snus. I need a fix when I ran out of Copenhagen 2 days before returning to the states. I prefer the general Snus, it is what I used when I lived in Sweden.

Just found the link: http://www.stablelodge.com/index.html

Just go to the front desk and tell them you need some snus.

Have him mail them through USPS. FedEx and UPS charge you the customs tax automaticaly. Thai customs have an agreement with them. Not that USPS can escape the customs crooks, but you run a good chance if it is packaged in a smaller box that it will just slip by. Has worked for me numerous times.
