Even though I haven't heard from CSC yet and we're past our 5 month mark (filed service request today), I went ahead and purchased my tickets for Thailand. I really want to see her.

Dropping back to an earlier conversation... is $1265.00 a good price for round trip tickets to BKK? I'm flying out of CO.

Not that I can change it now (dates were not dynamic right now)... I'd like to know for future visits. I have to fly back out when her visa is approved to bring her home and we'll be visiting Thailand after that because she has family there and I like Thailand.

Depends on a lot of factors. I've paid as little as $900 and as much as $1700. As long as you did your homework (spent a lot of time checking out the different online aggregators & the airline websites) and you are comfortable with the airline, well...

K1: 01/15/2009 (mailed I-129F) - 06/23/2009 (visa received)

AOS: 08/08/2009 (mailed I-485, I-765, & I-131) - 10/29/2009 (received GC)

For Denver you can find prices anywhere from $900 to 1350 or so. Fares have been around the $1200 mark for a while. Are you flying United?

A quick search comes up with $1232 from Chicago on Finair. The rules to get a good rate is to:

1. Be Flexible with your dates

2. Don't leave on a Friday, Try to leave around the middle of the week

3. Come back around the middle of the week as well, not on a Friday.

General rules, of course don't always allow for the least expensive fair.

I went through Expedia (just as the first trip).

I am flying out of Colorado Springs CO and arriving in BKK. The total cost out the door was 1265 for the round trip using Delta.

I played around with the dates, which is how I found the lower fare. I wanted to leave on the 1st of February but that was 1600. Leaving two days later saves me over 300$.

The only thing I need to secure now... are some good sleep aides. I'm not of the ideal travel size. At 6'3" tall and 245lbs... it's hard to be totally comfortable in those seats for a 10hr flight.

I'm hoping this and the last trip will add up with the rewards points so that next time I can get the two round trip tickets without breaking bank.

3 weeks in Thailand w/ my lady FTW!

I usually do Kayak, expedia, orbitz, then rerun it through the airline directly. I've often found this a bit cheaper, and you're not charged rebooking fees sometimes.

I think Kayak includes prices from Orbitz and Expidea... I also do check the airline site directly, and sometimes they are less expensive...

What is your favorite discount airline consolidator site?

Mine are :

1. Kayak

2. Priceline

3. bt-store.com

Recently I got tickets through Priceline but in the past I have found Sidestep.com

to be very useful in filtering travel & airline sites for fares. They don't actually

sell you the ticket but direct you to the airline or travel site that does.

In fact, sidestep.com may send you to travelocity, kayak, priceline or orbitz for the tickets.

I like the many specialized filters you can use in sidestep.

I don't think you can "sponsor" someone for a student visa. The applicant needs to prove they have been accepted to an institution in the U.S. and either they (or their parents) must show they have sufficient funds during their planned stay.
