OT.......I see your timeline, similar to mine. Where in Thailand is your wife? My wife and son are about 30 minutes from Surin. Our wives will probably heading to BKK at the same time for interviews.

Yep, looks like we are both stuck in Texas for the time being. My wife lives in Bangkok, although she grew up in Issan. Yes, our wives interviews could be days apart. It will be interesting to see what happens in Texas the next few weeks.

Who here celebrates Thai holidays with their Thai spouse? Or perhaps, if you are or were Thai, do you still have some observance on those special days?

We go to the Thai temple just outside DC for the holidays. Lots of authentic cooking, plants for sale, festivities, and Thais make it a good time. We also get together with other Thai-American couples in the area for dinner from time to time.

I just checked my "Thaivisa.com" free calendar and I wish to wish everyone a happy

"Royal Armed Forces Day" - January 18.

We don't really celebrate Thai holidays here but we have been to the local wat for

a very nice shindig put on by the Thai Drs & Nurses association in this area. When

my wife, who is relatively new here met some Thai women who had been in the US

for 10 years or more, she had her "seems to have lost a lot of Thai culture, they behave

like Americans" radar on, even though they were all speaking Thai.

Americanization will be painless; after a while she won't notice it :bonk:

It's interesting eh? It's not just being in America that's changing thai culture, it seems to be changing itself. The culture of the youth in Bangkok to me seems no different than the kids here, which is probably a shock to their grandparents. My friends in BKK seem to know more about what's happening on american TV, music, etc than I do.

True. Up until a year ago my wife was a teacher in a major HS in the greater BKK area.

I heard stories over 6-7 years of major disrespect by students to teachers and other

stuff that you would only expect in American schools. One case that comes to mind

which still shows the Thai way of doing things is when a student was proved to have

told a lie that insulted his teacher (my wife), there was a ceremony where he kowtowed

to her and kissed her feet in acknoledgement of his wrongdoing. I still have those pics.

If Thailand was an old-school communist country they would blame that on a

degenerate capitalist lifestyle as portrayed in American movies.

That's what I always used too. LOVE IT!!

That's weird. I flew in April 2009 and Dec 2010 and both time I got personal entertainment screen. I flew from Dallas to Incheon in Dec 2010 and it's the bigger plane with 4 seats in the middle - new plane too, and they have more choices in entertainment than the smaller ones. (sorry I couldnt remember if it's 770 or what ever...)

I go to Buddhist temple (Cambodia temple is closer to Thai temple) for Songkran. I observed Mother and Father's day and only remember other buddhist holiday if I got to read it somewhere. I also get together with my Thai freinds for a Thai feast once in a while :)

Yea, the heart is so hard to get! lol

Thanks, We dnt know where he got the dimples, I dont know any of our extended families to have them  Is it only genetic?

additionally, a thread post ban has been instituted on one individual.

Even though I haven't heard from CSC yet and we're past our 5 month mark (filed service request today), I went ahead and purchased my tickets for Thailand. I really want to see her.

Dropping back to an earlier conversation... is $1265.00 a good price for round trip tickets to BKK? I'm flying out of CO.

Not that I can change it now (dates were not dynamic right now)... I'd like to know for future visits. I have to fly back out when her visa is approved to bring her home and we'll be visiting Thailand after that because she has family there and I like Thailand.
