i think thailand will become a very very scary place when the king passes away. we hadn't talked as much about it until recently but we are considering trying to move my in laws here after my husband gets his citizenship.

I tend to agree on that. My wife is kind of ambivalent about her part-time work here in New York,

as she had great status (high level civil servant, respected teacher) over there while here

she has a very low status & low paying jobs (but the good part she sees is that she gets paid

by the hour and in Thailand she gave endless "free work" that was off the time clock).

Because her perception is that it's very tough here she feels it's better for her adult son

to stay in Thailand and not come to NY to look for work (because he already has a great

career with a major European company in Thailand). She says it would be too hard for

him like it is for her. I tend to disagree because he has a very marketable degree from

Chulalongkorn University.

My wife never talks about the king dying either but if all hell were to break out I would hope

my stepson will have some kind of assistance from his company. His father (also a teacher

in Bangkok) won't be as lucky as the schools would most likely be shut down because of

the political situation and the Ministry of Education won't likely pay teachers for not teaching

(unless there is a prescedent for that).

After the Yellow vs. Red "war" my view of what Thailand may turn into when the king dies

has changed considerably.

Laughing my a s s off. The wife got a ticket in chiang mai for no helmet. I'm reading the ticket and she gave the cop her sisters name. She didn't have I'd. Sister owes them 200 thb.

1) getting a document "legalized" at the Foreign Ministry in Bangkok, and

2) getting a document notarized (in a way that USCIS will accept)?

1. You have to have that if you want some kind of Thai visa. Non-O for example. MFA is out on Chaeng Watthana. You will need to go to a Thai Embassy outside of Thailand to get this.

2. Not sure about that. USCIS and NVC will accept certified translations of documents.

I love domestic airlines in SE Asia, that is if they don't crash. In Indonesia I flew Sriwijaya and they had the old school paper tickets written out in pencil and flew an old school 737-200. The overhead compartments would fly open on landing and chickens and god knows what else would go flying all about.

I'll tell ya what, don't go helping anyone out around here. This guy PM'ed me about the police report and how to get it without going to BKK. I gave him my wifes number in Thailand to explain how she did it without actually going to BKK. I just got a ###### PM from him accusing my wife of trying to hit her up for 5k Bhat. Apparently my wife paid that to some lawyer in BKK to deal with it so she didn't have to hop on the bus and spend a few days there.

I tried to help this pr!ck out and now he is accusing my wife of trying to shake his girl down for 5k baht. No good deed goes unpunished. I hope he met her at Nana or Cowboy and she takes him for everything he's got.

why would a manager position for a major hotel person wants to become a nanny or even help out in the house? even to help a friend but to quit a job to help a friend with her baby? That's a weird situation IMO.

There are many live-in or live-out nanny, you only need to search in your area. Talk to mom's group in your area for ideas and recommendation. Trying to get someone here for childcare is hard if they are not an aupair. I hardly think there's aupair from Thailand anymore...hardly any Thai aupair goes home after the year end...

See, that is where I think the problem will come in. I know she will never get a tourist visa and she is not an au pair now. She is a manager for a major hotel there so no experience in child care. I am still researching options but doesn't look like it will be easy.

If you are posting or are sharing on an internet forum, expect to get opinions. Also I have read lots of Anya's post over the years and they can be quite helpful.

To be honest just reading what you wrote, first thing I thought was your wifes friend wants to come to the US, and stay. Why would someone quit a decent job, to come to the US with an un-certain future, at some point, the kid is going to be old enough, and she is going to be of little use. I am sure the embassy will think the same thing.

Why would someone quit a decent job, to come to the US with an un-certain future, at some point, the kid is going to be old enough, and she is going to be of little use. I am sure the embassy will think the same thing.

Ok, to be honest, nothing was really thought out. That was some idea we had and I just threw it out. Found out real quick it wasn't going to happen so I let it go. It was not big deal, was brought up several weeks ago and did not know people thought it weird.

Yes, every time I think about this process it pisses me off for some reason. I was talking the other day about how unfair the entire system is to honest people.
