I think she would have an easier time flying directly to LAX on Thai Air, and then catching a connecting flight to wherever you are. I know the Thai Airlines are very good about helping Thai people get to where they are going once they are off the plane. My wifes aunt came to see her cousin in Chicago, and went through LAX, and they helped her out alot. Might be more money, but I think it would be worth it, so you know she will make it safely.

A friend of mine flew here from Poland when he was 12, he couldn't speak any english, and his cousin had made some cards for him before he left Poland and he was able to get through the airport.

Flight is already booked. She won't be the first one to fly here w/out speaking English on an airline other than Thai air. She'll make it - we've put in quite a bit of planning. A flight from LAX adds an additional $350 minimum to the bill. We have other expenses this year.

She'll be fine. They can be pricks sometimes.

The good part is, if they are pricks, she won't even know it!

If you hold both, it is probably best to use your Thai passport at immigration in Thailand, and of course at the exit passport control point. When you arrive in the U.S. show your U.S. passport. Is that what you were asking for?

I agree with that.

I was talking to my boss today. He is from India. He got his US citizenship a couple months ago. Since he did that, he now has to apply for some crazy entrance permit to go back to India. I forgot the name of the permit, but they seem really hardcore. Now he's barred from owning farm land and some other stuff.

They dont allow dual? and he's not Indian citizen anymore? Like in Thailand they do not allow dual but you would have to denounce your citizen to not be Thai anymore.. if you are Thai you will always be Thai

No Dual Citizenship for US-India - see links

Between the US & Thailand neither prohibit it, but I wouldn't recommend

that the Thai citizen change the name on the Thai passport if it is

different on the US passport, especially for Thais who own real estate

in Thailand.

Yeah that's what he was calling it. OCI. Overseas Citizenship of India.

Yep. I briefly scanned the FAQs and they have a formula for allowing

folks of Indian heritage (they count from Indian independence in 1947)

to have this as a permanent passport for overseas Indians without

actual voting or land ownership rights. It's not really citizenship but it

seeks to include the overseas Indian community by giving them a

few perks above & beyond those allowed to other foreign visitors to India.

I too have some Indian friends; some of whom are full citizens of India

& others who are US citizens.

To the original question about cell phone: I fedexed my then-fiance a cellphone in a fedex envelope surrounded by documents and padding so it felt like a stack of papers. No problems at all but it could have been luck. It was a US (AT&T) world phone which worked in Thailand and Europe though I had to enable international roaming. It was free with contract, probably not too bad without.
