Chutima had her Naturalization interview today, and this is what happened:

We arrived 15 minutes early for the appointment, which was at 0830. First we went through security which was a pain in the butt. Worse than airport security! After that, was told to take the appointment letter to window 9 which was at the far end of the building in the corner. Waited for 20 minutes and a lady came out and called her name. Went back to her office where she introduced herself. She was nice but very professional. She went over the entire N-400 application form, including when and where each of us was born, our current address. When she got to how many times I've been married, wanted to see the divorce papers, which my wife gave her, and she went over very thoroughly. Then she asked if we were still married or separated, and what proof she had that we lived together. She showed her a utility bill I included, the warranty deed to our house, and a letter from my sister in AK addressed to both of us. She then went over every question on the form. After that she signed a piece of paper after raising her hand and swearing that all the information she gave was correct and true.

Then she was given the civics test and was asked the following questions:

What is one right or freedom from the First Amendment?

If the President can no longer serve, who becomes President?

Who signs bills to become laws?

What is one reason the colonists came to America?

During the Cold War, what was the main concern of the United States?

Why does the flag have 50 stars?

Then she was given the English test. She was handed a piece of paper with three sentences on it, which the IO had checked the second one and had her read aloud.

"Who is the father of our country?"

Then she was given another piece of paper and told to write:

"Washington is the father of our country."

She put a check on each paper and added them to our growing stack of paperwork.

After that she signed both her photos, and finally signed the two remaining areas on the N-400 application.

She was then given a N-652, Naturalization Interview Results form. The first box was checked saying she passed the tests, and the B) blank was checked saying "A decision cannot yet be made about your application." and the IO wrote to the side "Not yet 3 yrs residence approvable on 10/19". She said that they would mail her Oath Ceremony letter on or around 10/19. Had she already met the 3 yrs residency, they would have had her wait a little longer in the waiting area and given her the Oath Ceremony letter, as I saw them doing with other individuals.

All in all, very painless. I think I was more nervous than my wife was! Will wait for the letter and go back for the Oath Ceremony in the same building.

GRATZ Robert!!!!

See, you worried too much! (just like me ahem ahem..) Yea I think that's the down side of applying for N-400 before 3 yrs residency - have to wait to get the Oath if the processing time was very fast! who would've thought it'd be this fast, right?

WOW! Congratulations! I imagine that's a relief! Really nice!

I would have answered:

What is one right or freedom from the First Amendment? Right to arm bears

If the President can no longer serve, who becomes President? I do; I'm cool like dat.

Who signs bills to become laws? Hillary

What is one reason the colonists came to America? To rape and pillage the Indians then steal their land

During the Cold War, what was the main concern of the United States? That summer wouldn't be hot enough

Why does the flag have 50 stars? For psychedelic purposes; a layover from the 70's

Thanks Brother Mark! :) We tried to celebrate, but because Chutima didn't sleep the night before the interview, she ended up feeling really sick and slept the rest of the day. :( After the Oath Cermony we'll celebrate for sure!

Done for 3 years or 10 years. Haven't decided yet.

(I'm going for the IR-1 and blowing off the K-3. Even if it takes an extra couple months, it's worth it to not have to deal with USCIS again)

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

Welcome to the USA!!!

no, I live in the US. I'd rather live in AUS tho so someplace like Thailand where I can never ever own land is a non issue. They'll be corrupt and vote for kee for the next 100 years. Same with the US.

It was definitely stress and nerves, and she was fine after getting a good nights sleep. Now her next major challenge is passing her driving test! :o

She feels the driving test is a lot harder than the Naturalization test!

I bought Chutiima a used Honda Accord EX that she liked, so now I'm spending time taking her driving.

Guess I'm the one that's stressed now!

I am in Thailand now until the 31st of October and our NOA2 was just approved.

Did anyone out there find themselves in a similar situation and how did you proceed

if you didn't have the NOA2 certificate in hand as far as the interview was concerned?

I know we still have to wait for the NVC step first but that can happen in a few days.

I would say plan at least a 5 weeks from this point. That is what it took us last year. From NOA2 to Interview.

Your fiancée could begin to assemble Packet 3 items, so when the time comes to send them to the consulate in order to schedule an interview, she already has them. They would include items such a police certificate (which can take several weeks) and verification of unmarried status (obtained at her home Amphur office).

You can find the full list here: http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/root/pdfs/k_visa_packet3.pdf

Some items are not due until the interview itself, which could be several weeks off, but it can't hurt to get them together now. Your fiancée could even complete her physical exam in the time being.

All the best
