3 type of basils - Thai basil, holy basil.. and the other one..

Hi Anya-D:

May I ask what holy basil is? Is it Bai-kra-praw? I just bought "Thai Basil," which I believe it's Ho-ra-pa (right?) yesterday from Home Depot and will repot it today. It's my first time ever doing an herb garden at home. I am so excited. :)

Yes, Holy basil is Bai kra praw and Thai basil is horapa. I like to make Pad krapraw with fried egg - it's the best comfort food ever!

We made an additional garden for me this weekend.. moving all those dirt from the truck full of dirt (Bram's job) and put it in the box we made was quite fun :blush: when done, i smelled like manure :angry:

Holy basil takes its name from Indian Ayurveda, the holistic medical system. It is used to relieve stress among other things, so it's ironic that you call it the best comfort food.

It's one of my favorite too, and I am not even thinking about planting Thai basil, just kra-praw.

Thanks a lot!!! I am going to have to get Holy basil. It's been a long time since my last Pad-kra-praw Kai and Kai-Daow!! I didn't see any at Home Depot yesterday, so I may have to grow it from seeds.

Sounded like you have a big lot of land to do your gardening, of which I'm envious. :)

I put bai-ho-ra-pa in fresh spring rolls I make at home. My hubby and I love fresh spring rolls. :)

Though there is a difference between Thai basil and the other types of basil you can buy in the fresh produce section (like sweet basil)... I don't find it as necessary to have Thai basil as holy basil.

Even when making Poh Pia Sod, any good fresh basil will do, but when it comes to Kra Praw Moo, you have to have holy basil for it to work!

What else would you use holy basil in besides ka-prao moo or gai?

I love it in Pho (Vietnamese noodle soup). Most noodle soups do but there's nothing better than the Viet style...the Thai style is awful close with the meatballs...I break off a handfull with sprouts, sprinkle peanuts, hot sauce...I am having a MAJOR craving for that stuf!

Hey! I called NVC since my letter from them dated the 4th said they'd send it out in about a week....they said they sent it to BKK on the 1st so I'm assuming they only had it for the day and bounced it right out (whew, relief compared to what others had been through with NVC delays)....

I assume I should get her to order the police cert RIGHT NOW since I hear it can take up to a month...then the bai rub rong sod maybe in a week or two while we're waiting....and the medical. I'm so happy progress is happening now! I am soooo happy!

8/3/08 K-1 I 129f Sent (Atty Ofc made mistake delayed app, we learned later)

8/14/08 NOA-1

1/23/09 RFE Color Passport Picture

Oh yes I believe this!! My Thai wife has told me many time, She will cut it off for sure and then goes on to tell me how her aunt dumped a pot of boiling water on her husband for have an affair. My wife is very jealous even just looking at other lady and I can see it is my wife's face.
