That really is good to know. I hadn't heard much about them. I did Korean air. If you ever fly them, they left 20 minutes EARLY and arrived in Bangkok 1 1/2 hours early. I'm not a fan of the food, though. The only spice they give you is in a bottle and I used all that up (the stewardess acted surprised and asked "you really like spicy food?" I guess we all have our stereotypes. Their food was similar to US country food (grits, turnips, etc). Thai air was the absolute best but they don't fly direct to NYC anymore (bummer). I did have 3 seats to myself on Korean, though. Flight over stank because they kept waking me up to put my seat up every time they serve drinks (all the other airlines know the tray tables don't move when a seat is moved) but this one stewardess seemed to be a control freak. The return trip was completely different and the staff were a lot nicer. Iguess an opinion of an airlines can change just that fast but many only recall the negative flights and learn from there. Me included...more bad experiences considtently (individiual and policy related) making passengers low on the priority list. I think anything is a step above a US owned airlines, though. It is good to know China Air offers decent service. I'll keep that in mind!

:wow: You mean that even though the tray table is attached to the seat in front of you, and you recline backwards, the tray table doesn't move?

I must be flying on the wrong planes.

I must be flying on the wrong planes.

Actually on almost all aircraft the tray supports are mounted to the arm rests of the seat in front of you. So when the seat is reclined, it has no effect on the tray position. But it cause you to have the seat back of the person in front of you directly over your food so when you bend your head over to eat, your head is hitting the back of the seat in front of you. It is kinda annoying.

That's what I was thinking, and thus the reason every airline I've ever flown asks you to put your seatback up during meal service.

In the words of my wife, "If I had gun, I would shoot them all" referring to the red & yellow shirts. She thinks they are all dumb. I hated the closing of the airport, mainly because I was flying in at the time, and was pissed off my surprise visit got ruined, cause I had to go an extra 10 hours not talking to my fiancee, and she would have worried to death not talking to me for a day and a half.

Someone mentioned earlier that the Yellows had just blocked the roads to the airports. That is not true they were inside the airport, pictures of them inside the airport (when I was in Taipei) , prompted my reroute to Cambodia, rather then wait for it to reopen.

From what I understand talking to several people while I was over there, the yellow shirts were being paid to protest, you really don't think the rich people were spending days inside the airport hanging out??? Of course the people were paid, whether it was in free food, free transportation, or a daily baht stipend, they were PAID.

I think the current PM could have really headed most of this off, had he not given PAD members positions in his cabinet, but I am sure he was bound to do it since they are the ones that got him into power.

I can tell you all the people I met that were stranded by the airport closure, both in Thailand, and Cambodia, said they would never return to Thailand again. Sucks for the economy their, from Dec til I left it all the tourist places were so slow, 1/2 as many people as when I was there in the beginning of November.

That part really does suck, and I hate seeing Thailand getting this kind of negative press. There have been a lot of travel shows lately, on the Travel Channel, that have been featuring Thailand, but even they don’t capture Thailand in what I would call a “positive light”.

I remember your trip to Thailand, Aaron, and I really admired your tenacity to get there, no matter what! You are a definite trooper!

I refer to her as my wife (too much time in Thailand...I'm sure many you know who have spouses may never have their marriages registered but no one blinks an eye). That's what they call us over there...husband and wife. No it's not recognized by the government but it is socially and family and friends. In the carnal sense and social sense (not legal sense) we're married. I like the Thai way...live together and you're good as married (otherwise you're using each other)--poor but loose translation. The majority don't bother registering marriages unless property is involved. her parents and grandparents never registered theirs. We did the full ceremony already in THailand but never registered so we're not legally married so we legally answer NO on the applications. People do the same in the US but it's more often than not (at least up north) not to "legalize" a marriage. People have ceremonies all the time without registering. It depends if you're a carnal, religious, legal or social interpreter of marriage, I guess.

My wife was married before for 5 years but the law office we used knew of this and asked "paper marriage or marriage" and she said "marriage" so they told her answer "no" on the "have you been married before" question. This was the first I knew most from her area don't "paper" marry. Her parents, grandparents, sister and brother and all the neighbors (except one) are "married" but not "paper married". so that's why we're doing the K-1...no paper there or here yet.

All I'm saying is I'd keep it quiet about all this "wife" stuff, until you're actually here in the US and formally married.

You still have some bridges to cross - most importantly her interview, and her POE. One slip up by her in which she refers to you as her husband could land you with additiional RFEs or even denials.

If the CO at consulate or the border agent at POE even SMELL a HINT that you are married, they can give you no end of grief. You've already had an RFE, and are still stuck in the system... surely you above all people should be doing everything possible to dot every i and cross every t for the system. And that includes training yourself and your fiance to ALWAYS think of yourselves and speak of yourselves as unmarried fiances, and NOT husband and wife.

Just my opinion, do what you think is right.

Aw now... you mean that
Our flights and services are accessible to everyone and everyone is treated equally. We do not charge for anything but the flying fare. It is only based on mileage. That is the only rule we have! always same fare everyday and for everyone. We offer free onboard services from IFE, somtam, sticky rice, and much more. Enjoy our comfortable leather seats with generous seat recline and leg room. Yes your still thinking? we sure give you the whole soda can and a wide choice of exotic fruit juices.

is all a lie?!

I prefer flying Singapore. Anybody experienced their jumbo Airbus A380 plane yet?

:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

I had to do a visa run when I was in Taipei, and chose Singapore airlines to go from Taipei to Singapore. OMG! The flight attendants looked like angels! :innocent: I swear that in order to work for that airline they hold up the uniform and say "if you can fit into this, you can work for us"! Unlike US airlines, they award the overseas/international flights to the attendants that have the most "seniority", aka fat, old, and grumpy! :dead:

The reason I chose Singapore airlines was because one day while sitting in the lobby of the Taipei Hyatt, I saw all these drop dead gorgeous women walking in from a bus. :luv: When I asked a person nearby who they were, he said "oh, they're the aircrew from a Singapore airlines flight." That's when I knew I needed to fly on that airline!

I was not disappointed! :D:thumbs: Without a doubt, the best airline I've ever flown on. Best part... I got to fly business class!

- The King, for the first time didn't intervene

I posted the King's rights a while ago.. and no the King didnt intervene other protests until it gets ugly and he came out to warn them.. so this is normal.

and the Princess initiated paying for hotels for protesters and stranded tourists alike. THis helped the business in BKK in a big way, calmed the tourists down and gave room and board for protesters.

...which princess? and the red shirt was doing the same

-Regarding this color of shirt for each day of the week; sounds like a BKK fad to me. Isaan loved the king and the family a whole lot but they felt abandoned with this latest yellow shirt airport stunt just as the economy was coming to a screeching halt, they closed all the airports and it crippled many businesses.

Yea yea - for over 40 years he tried to help them - it's all gone coz the other guy came to give them money.. yea..

My wife was also telling me of Thakisins other stunts and other things that angered the Northern people. Apparently Thaksin paid off Thai debt with his own money with promise of Thailand to repay him then some stunt was done to leave him with no money, no repayment as promised. not his own money - and you know what? he even promote the King's project as his own too..

Don't forget I'm agreeing he's a downright crook.

good

especially when they were on the news saying Isaan people shouldn't be allowed to vote because they're so stupid, uneducated and there should be an education requirement to vote.

-source?- other than your wife?

My wife had to leave home at 12 to work in a sweat shop because they had no food (not a little food, NO food) -sorry to hear this

On top of that, the current president said to kill em all.

THat REALLY pissed off the red shirts because nothing but support was given to the yellows but you've got a president saying "you will suffer no recourse if you kill the protestors". Apparently this was before things got out of control. My wife said a true Thai president would typically try to calm both sides and bring about peace. Never before has a president said to kill em all (he really said this...on the news). The red shirts said "Oh you want violence, we'll show you violence" then it got way out of control.

again - source? if he said that then the yellow shirt wouldnt stand for it either.. you know they didnt like the governement.. they just giving him a chance.. the incident in Pattaya.. they grilled him so bad... I was there too and I never heard he said that.. which TV are you saying.. heard from his mouth or from the red shirt's leader? He cant say kill them all one day and the next say no force against protester. Aphisit is not stupid like the other 2 PM.. may be she still has the image of Somchai (Thaksin's brother in law who used force against the yellow shirt) and mixed up the two.

If you put yourself in their shoes, Thaksin, no matter how evil is all they've got. Yellows win and get their paws in the constitution and isaan may lose their vote and any poor people's benefits to give them a leg up on equality. it's far more complicated but that's the jist of it. They've fighting for equal opportunity and equal rights and trying to hang on to voting and political rights. It's not like the legislature is filled with equal representation and equal weighted votes there. They really have no representation and the alternative to their crook is worse.

really? what's worse than throwing a change to one group of people and robbed the country blind? I dont know if i could find again the vedio of the vote counting.. they literally throw away the ballot of other people and count only the one with Thaksin's party on it.. it's candid vedio..

I just flew with them back. I notice the same thing but some how their food tray tilted a bit when you lean your seat back. and it gives the person in the back a very little space to eat. I didnt mind doing it coz it means I can eat quite comfortably. I like Korean air's food very much too :)
