Hello all,

I am starting the process of collecting the necessary documents to file with the NVC, namely:

1. Original/Certified birth certificate of the beneficiary

2. Original/Certified marriage certificate of the beneficiary and the petitioner

3. Original police certificate(s) of the beneficiary

According to the 'LingChe NVC ShortCut' guide it is not necessary to translate documents, "Translations - All documents not in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations."

All of my wife's documents are in Thai language. I would like some reassurance that translation is not necessary for Thailand.

I am almost positive you will need everything translated to English because you will be submitting those documents to NVC, not the embassy in Bangkok. I think the LingChe shortcut is wrong about that.

Well, I think I'm going to post my whole situation here so I can get some feedback on how we should handle this.

My boyfriend and I started dating in May of last year, but we had known eachother for a while before because we were good friends. He was an international student going to my community college, and I am a half-Filipino, half American girl who attends community college to save money. He is 20 years old and I am 19, but by the time we are married, I will be 20 and he will be 21.

He left in August, and we were already by then sure we wanted to marry, but we had no idea how to do so because both of us are poor. So I started working more so I can visit him in may, after I graduate with my associate's degree.

We want to get married in Thailand and then have him come to the United states. We will both work and maybe finish school later when we have the resources to do so. The main thing that we are focused on right now is joining our lives together.

If I come back to the US in august, and start the process right away, how long will it take? And please give any suggestions in regards to our situation.

Look's like my wife's sister is really sick and may not make it. Apparently she has pnuemonia pretty bad. Also I came to find out out something nice. Her sister talked her mom into taking a loan out on the family farm, and gave the title to this lady. The father knows nothing about it. Never stops in Thailand. Nok is going over to see her sister Tuesday and try to straighten this mess out.

On a positive note, I was able to buy a ticket on Korean Air today for $1370. Pretty good price on short notice. Also, they will let you change the return date with no penalty. I wish American based airlines would do that. I came back from Newark a couple weeks ago, and wanted to leave a couple hours earlier. Bastards charged me $50 for that.

@niing since you will be filing for a cr-1 visa it could take about 8mos to a year but the advantage is your fiance will get a greencard right away and be able to work. i was a k-1 filer so i am not able to help much but the others who have gone that route will come back and answer any q's you have.

How much evidence is needed for K-1 visa? We really want to just get married now, but since we think we need more evidence, I'm spending a lot of money to go there. I wish he would be able to just come here and marry me.

Anyone else having issues calling Thailand using Vonage? I opened a ticket, and they say there is a problem.

You might want to look into Voipdiscount as a backup to Vonage for times like these. My wife and I average less than $1/month for the service.

If you are not familiar with it, it is another Voip service by Betamax. You put a deposit of 10 euros and you call Thai mobiles/landlines for free for 120 consecutive up to 300 min/week then it is 1.4 cents/min to mobiles after that which is deducted from your 10 euro credit The quality is OK, not great, and probably not as good as vonage. And you need to use a computer, SIP device, or do a phone to phone bridge. However the price is right for calling mobiles and you could have it as a backup in case Vonage as problems.

My wife has found it acceptable enough (she likes the price) that we haven't felt the need to invest in other services like vonage (we did have Skype unlimited Thailand for a while). We have been using it since June and so far and still have $7 euro credit. So we spend less than a $1/month to call Thailand as much as my wife has desired.

I think this has been discussed in the forum several times but it would be good to hear the latest of what everyone is using to call Thailand, commenting on price vs quality.

She also found another post that said they should be in English or in Thai. I am still nervous about sending the packet in Thai, but I think I will do it anyway, and see what happens. I will relay what happens.

In recent weeks I have noticed Vonage takes a little bit longer to connect. I haven't noticed a sound quality issue.
