Greetings all, and thanks in advance for reading a question probably already answered. I seem to have read and understood the entire CR-1 process fairly well. Pretty simple, easy, and inexpensive. I've also read the Guides on here. Though they are a bit contradictory and dated... I can't find anything about this topic.

My only question is in regards to the NOA's and approval of the I-130. It seems the norm is to receive a few NOA's, and even a few "touches", and so forth, before being approved. The process may take a while.

For us, we simply received an approval letter 2 weeks after we applied(even though we have not submitted all the paperwork required yet, because the local gov here messed up their own docs). No notice of receipt, no notice of acceptance, nothing. Just 2 weeks, and the approval.

So I suppose this is good. Though, in this country, one needs to always question things that seem to go good, because there are problems with everything.

Is there a simple answer to this? Is it as strange as it seems compared to other's cases? Or should I be worried?

Thanks again.

On an aside, the famous "LingChe NVC ShortCut" on this site is also inaccurate and dated..... just saying.

You're reading about what happens when people file with a US service center. Your experience is typical for a direct Consular filing, which is what you did.

A Warning to Green Card Holders About Voting

If you did the DCF it would make sense. I have seen a couple of 2 weeks approval from filing date. Just count your lucky stars and prepare for the next level

That's all it is, eh? It does seem that many people(who give advice) on the topic of I-130 don't know about the DCF option. For instance, many people tell me I need to fly all the way to the USA and back for filing. Which makes little sense. I'm certainly proof that DCF is not a long dead option.

Yes, read that.

" In most cases permanent residence abroad must be legally established for a period of six months prior to submitting an I-130 petition" should have "in most cases" highlighted. I proved to be nothing more than a tourist with a 3 week visa and I was approved. Just needed to show some utility bills and a rental receipt to prove I lived here. No LPR status or anything was required.

Also never filed a cover letter.

I think another thing that should be mentioned, that a lot of members here miss, is that DCF is not a visa. It's just a right to file at the nearest embassy to where you live abroad(as the whole flying to the USA just to file is just silly)

Just lucky? That's good. And I am thankful. Suppose I'll update on the current Manila situation. Thanks for the reply.

(BTW-The Filipino security guard never checks if you have an appointment. With jeepneys and buses, there's no way to tell when you can make it there. I always just walk in without an appointment. But if you see the Lou Diamond Phillips looking Fil-American guy, just turn around and go home! lol)

That's good. Gotta double check. It seems not many people go the DCF route, and the I-130 info gets a little confounded. I've also heard from many that the DCF ended many years ago and no longer exists. Simply not true.

Thanks for the reply and reassurance!

DCF stopped being available for a short period of time, maybe a few months, about three years ago. There's lots of information out there that is outdated but we have a whole separate forum here dedicated to DCF filings. Check it out because you don't have a visa yet, just an approved petition.
