I have been reading alot of interview threads. It is possible that work may prevent me from being in Brazil at the time of our interview. Would we need to reschedule if this occurs? I am thinking that I am still 6 months away from our interview as our NOA1 date was 12/01/2010. I am working on a project in California and it looks like I will be unavailable until July. I am sure it makes the process go alot smoother when the couples are together but surely they must understand that some of us have jobs that do not offer this kind of flexibility. Does anyone have any input on attending the interview without the fiance present? Thanks for all of your thoughts and comments

For the most part K-1 does not need petitioner there, and in fact many consulates wont joint interview anyway.

There is a topic on this here: http://www.visajourn...22-k1-interview

it would be nice if you could attend the interview for support to your fiance, but quiet frankly i don't think it makes much difference whether or not you attend. because most consulate won't even let the petitioner in the interview room.she will be fine, just make sure all the paper work are together. best wishes :)

I would love to be there and at the moment I plan to be there. I just have a feeling that this is going to drag on up to the time I will need to be in California. I have visited her 3 times in the past 3 months. Thanks for your advice and comments.

I went by myself in Rio, nothing bad happened. Just make sure you have everything needed for the interview regarding documents. I was first to get everything organized in the order they asked, and I think that is why I got interviewed first too. Was such a relief :)

True.
quiet frankly i don't think it makes much difference whether or not you attend.
On what do you base this cavalier opinion? If every VJ member took this advice, what would happen?
because most consulate won't even let the petitioner in the interview room.
Name all that do and all that don't. Please specify those that "don't" but "may" or "do" if the USC is nearby and hands the passport to the interviewee to show the CO.
she will be fine
This may prove to be true, but you can't say this with any authority because you don't know. NONE of us can know. Please stop spreading cavalier, dismissive advice when it makes the most sense to prepare for the worst.

OP, you're still a long way from having to worry about when your interview will be. It could be that your project will be over before it comes time to schedule an interview. As time grows closer, please carefully review the "Embassy Info" and "Embassy Reviews" for your consulate, paying attention to (1) the worst-case stories and (2) recent patterns.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I was not able to attend with my Brasilian fiance. Everything went well for him. I have heard of a lot of people interviewed without their fiancee and had no problem in Rio. Good luck with your process!

There are 4 categories of consulates, regarding this matter:

A ) Consulates where it totally doesn't matter if your petitioner is present. Canada, Most of Western Europe, Australia, etc.

B ) Consulates where having your petitioner is a plus, but not having them is not a minus. Brazil is probably one of these.

C ) Consulates where not having your petitioner present is a red flag, ranging in severity from minor red flag to your-application-better-be-absolutely-airtight-otherwise. Many MENA countries fall into this category. China and Vietnam are in this spectrum too, I think.

D ) Consulates where no petitioner means no visa, end of story. Guyaquil in Ecuador, Lagos in Nigeria, maybe Casablanca.

Bear in mind that many consulates in C and D will not let you interview with your petitioner. Some won't let your petitioner into theinterview room. Some won't even let your petitioner into the consulate/embassy, but they still want/require proof that your petitioner is in the country with you at the time, and will consider it a significant red flag if you can't show them, for example, your petitioner's original passport, to demonstrate, even if they're not in the building, that they're in the country with you.

DON'T PANIC

"It says wonderful things about the two countries [Canada and the US] that neither one feels itself being inundated by each other's immigrants."

-Douglas Coupland

excuse me!! i was not spreading any ill advises to any one, all i stated and it's a known fact, some consulates do not let the petitioner in the interview, or even in the embassy. like the consulate in my country for example, they use to allow the petitioner in the interview, but now that has stopped. all i was saying to the OP, is that he should not worry too much if he is unable to make it, just ensure that his fiance has all the documents, and have her facts set, and be prepared to give an explanation as to why he was unable to attend if the question arises. i was also taking in consideration the amount of times he said he visited before. so i do not know where you get off being so arrogant!!! we are all here to learn from each other, (UNLESS you are an immigration attorney)so if a member said something that is in correct (which i am not) all you had to do was give your 2 sense without bashing the other member!!!!
