Shalz is absolutely right, at least at the Delhi pasport office if you need something done urgently or even in time, you have to go through an agent. In Delhi, they are all available outside the office generally.

KP, your wife should do fine, just ask her to go with someone who would know the various loops or just ask Shalz's fiance

Just talked to my husband and he actually spent 4K to get passport clearance !

The thing is that she had asked the guy at the "inquiry" is there was any greasing which would help with the process. But she was said that everything takes time. However, I think you guys are right -- they will not take a bribe directly from the applicant but will take it from an agent.

Shalz -- can you ask your fiance the name of the agent he used? Also where did he find this agent? My wife was saying that there is a building next to the passport building full of these agents.

Thanks Shalz -- she is getting some reinforcements (her brother) tomorrow morning so I'll ask her to go to this mysterious building next door and go talk to the vultures.

Bhai is a pretty domisticated (married) non-violent, soft-spoken guy. The biwi is the "pataka" I think she just needs some himmat to go through with it. Her punjabi is 100 MPH <grin>.

let me tell you a little story. not related to this.

My brother's wedding was on the march 30, 2006. and he came to india on the 24th, so we were shopping at raymonds in Patiala. We bought about 4 suits and the amount we had to pay was about 16176 in rupees...can't remember the exact figures now... but anyways so i gave him 16000, and then he goes.. the 176.. im like what u talking about???? mann there were too many people in that shop ... and I just started yelling and all.. im like you want that or you want your suit's back. He kept on mumbling.. ma'am we have already given you 10% discount and can't give no more....and i was like, for the last time im gonna ask... 16000 or the suit's ... and my brothers, my sister in law even my hubby left me there by myself.. they didn't wanna be there as i was about to have a fight with that guy.

But yes, that clearly shows you are the original Punjabi female......I am punjabi too, getting married to a non-punjabi one, so unfortunately I am not as lucky as KP who will have someone to fight his shopping bargains for But then again, I wont have someone shouting on me at home either poor KP, and Shalz's hubby, hope they dont shout like that in da house, on their hubbies

Was talking to timesnap a while back, and seems she is the fiery one too....Guess I am defiently the lucky hubby here .... :) Though my fiancee can hook me around her finger in a second, she is a conversational master ..... Well, I will get better at that...I swear

Well, I dont know if she had her advertising campaign set on me or not, but I am still very very happy that I won't have someone's temper to deal with everyday And for your hubby and KP and Shalz's hubby, what can I say:
