My wife and I have an appointment with the US immigration service in 2 weeks. They have requested that we bring an English/Spanish translator although I am fluent in both languages. I guess they want a third party to do the translations so they know that I am not misrepresenting what my wife says. How can I find a translator for an in person appointment at the USCIS offices? CraigsList? Some other website? How much should I expect to pay for this service? Most of my wife's friend who are bilingual are also here illegally so they won't want to show up at the USCIS offices for obvious reasons.

Have you tried to call the consulate, or honorary consulate of Colombia in your city. They may be able to provide you with a name,or put you in touch with a reputable interpreter for such an occasion. As for fees...my sister has done interpreting and the charges are done by the hour of service provided. You should do a little research on the net to get an idea of what the current fees are for interpreting...the rate charged may also depend on the language in question. good luck

Check and see if your city has a Latin American Association or something like that. Here in ATL, that's definitely where I'd go first!

Thanks for the suggestions. I have contacted one local company and they will provide a translator for $75 per hour with a 2 hour minimum. I may place a local ad on CraigsList and see what offers I might get.
