This site is really awesome! Love the support and all the information available.

Me and my fiance met online too...and we've known each other for 5 months now and decided to start the K1 process.

He came to visit me once, last December for 10 days and that's when he proposed and we got engaged. I guess we don't have too much to show either. We sent in copies of the flight ticket, boarding pass, engagement ring pics and receipt and receipts of a tour we took together and about 20 something thumbnail pics of us together in Malaysia with my friends. He didn't get a chance to meet my parents yet though and i don't know if that is a big deal? I know they place a lot of importance on family involvement.Well anyway, we're waiting anxiously for the NOA2. My heart goes out to the rest of you who are waiting for your other half to come join you. This is really hard! So we all deserve a pat on the back for persevering! It's all worth it in the end.

I think you should be fine with what you have.

We don't have a ring. Saving for everything and then will get a nice set of wedding bands. But I met his family :) So, I'm thinking that letter from one of his family members and one of mine will be good as well. He has not met mine, but they know all about him. lol :D

I'm sure you'll be fine like everyone here keeps telling me. :D

Good luck and I hope you hear good things for the NOA2

Hello All,

Is there such a thing as not knowing someone long enough in regards to the approval process for a spouse VISA? I have known my GF for 2 month and am flying to China to meet her for the first time next Month. So we will have known each other for just over 3 months. We have talked (via email) about the possibility of marriage if we feel right when we meet next month. We met online via PlentyofFish.com. I am 51 she is 47. We email each other everyday. She is taking english classes and we use an interpreter for the emails. Would that be too soon for the spouse VISA process to be approved? There are no problems with regards to financial support or job longevity as I have been with my present employer over 20 years. My only concern is if it may be considered too soon and be denied for that reason. Anyone's thoughts or previous experiences regarding this time frame would be appreciated. Thank you all in advance. ~Joe

Hi everyone. Great site here.

I am wondering if there's anyone who started as an online relationship that could offer some advice.

As we're starting to put the petition together, I'm starting to get nervous if we have enough acceptable evidence. We've been in the relationship for a year now. I've got original chat logs dating from a year ago, but the names are not our RL names. I can easily prove my account by verifying with payment records. I don't think he does though. I've got some emails as well as chat logs using gmail and skype. I'm figuring out how to extract skype to skype calls (on a MAC), as this is our primary form of communication. I've been to visit him and his family for the holidays, but it was only for 2 weeks. So, I've got pictures, boarding passes, hotel and flight itineraries, etc etc. We wanted to send in the petition sometime between now and spring time. Is this sufficient? I was planning to go again this summer, but I may not have the financial means when taking into account our future wedding and the whole visa/AOS fees. I'd prefer not to wait out another year or half year before filing a petition...but I'm starting to wonder if the 2nd one month trip in the summer would be a better insurance for our case.

Any advice from people who've been in a similar situation?

...Also as a note. I know a lot of people are weary of online relationships. We've been at this for a year now. We don't hide things from each other just because it's over the 'net. And it's amazing how many mannerisms/habits one picks up spending with someone 24-7 in as short as 2 weeks. lol The time we spent in person was just as we always do (only better and not between computer screens). We're willing to wait a bit longer to file if we have to. But, we're both at a point in our lives where we're ready to settle down and start our life and family together...like everyone here :) But I guess...I'm just getting nervous cause we didn't meet the conventional way.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I really really realllllly enjoy this forum. There's a lot of positive vibes and it's open my eyes to seeing that any road blocks are not impossible to overcome...just requires more patience and perseverance. :)

Hi, congrats on your k1 visa application.

I will like to clarify since you stated you have a year of relationship and also a year of proof of relationship. I thought that it requires 2 years dating/meetup requirement for the K1 visa?

For anyone on Mac I've attached a call exporter program that will give you all of your call history since you installed Skype.

I strongly recommend you don't upgrade to Skype 5 by the way! if you need the earlier version I have this as well.

I picked my wife out of an online catalog, then we corresponded for three months using emails/Skype/phone/text messages, then met in person for only 10 days and then filed the K-1. We continued to correspond and she had a successful interview and we have been happily married for over two years now.

So we had less evidence than you and had no issues. You are just fine.

Nope! It requires for the couple to have met in person once during the past two years.

No, you only have to have met within two years prior to the filing. No constraints on length of relationship.

Thanks for the reply and all the ones that follow. But this post is OVER ONE YEAR old. lol

I've been active on the boards for this long, though not around as much for the last month...kinda funny to see the questions I had at the beginning.

And it's meet in person within two years of the petition, not have a relationship for two years.

But thanks anyways?

By the way...we're at the interview stage :P:)

Don't be lazy, start your own thread.
Good general advice, but here it comes 13 months too late and without having read the OP's message just above. By the way, congrats, OP.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
