Hi everyone. Great site here.

I am wondering if there's anyone who started as an online relationship that could offer some advice.

As we're starting to put the petition together, I'm starting to get nervous if we have enough acceptable evidence. We've been in the relationship for a year now. I've got original chat logs dating from a year ago, but the names are not our RL names. I can easily prove my account by verifying with payment records. I don't think he does though. I've got some emails as well as chat logs using gmail and skype. I'm figuring out how to extract skype to skype calls (on a MAC), as this is our primary form of communication. I've been to visit him and his family for the holidays, but it was only for 2 weeks. So, I've got pictures, boarding passes, hotel and flight itineraries, etc etc. We wanted to send in the petition sometime between now and spring time. Is this sufficient? I was planning to go again this summer, but I may not have the financial means when taking into account our future wedding and the whole visa/AOS fees. I'd prefer not to wait out another year or half year before filing a petition...but I'm starting to wonder if the 2nd one month trip in the summer would be a better insurance for our case.

Any advice from people who've been in a similar situation?

...Also as a note. I know a lot of people are weary of online relationships. We've been at this for a year now. We don't hide things from each other just because it's over the 'net. And it's amazing how many mannerisms/habits one picks up spending with someone 24-7 in as short as 2 weeks. lol The time we spent in person was just as we always do (only better and not between computer screens). We're willing to wait a bit longer to file if we have to. But, we're both at a point in our lives where we're ready to settle down and start our life and family together...like everyone here :) But I guess...I'm just getting nervous cause we didn't meet the conventional way.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I really really realllllly enjoy this forum. There's a lot of positive vibes and it's open my eyes to seeing that any road blocks are not impossible to overcome...just requires more patience and perseverance. :)

Hey,

goodluck with your k1 process, its an exciting and long journey but worth it in the end :)

anyway, i am not sure if it works with MAC but i was able to extract 100 pages-worth of skype logs from skypelogview. If its not compatible with a mac then you can always borrow a pc to do it on then copy it, you still have time :)

it was never asked from me though :) hope it helps!

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

well welcome to the club my friend :D I think most of the couple here have met each other on the net and then fell in love ;) my fiancee and I for example :) we only sent the USCIS like 12 emails with corresponding respond to each of them, boarding pass from our trips, hotel vouchers, bank transfer, and 12 pictures of us together. We've been in a relationship for almost 1 year and 3 months before we finally decide to get marry and start the whole K1 process. At first the whole thing was very stressful and information overload :P but luckily we found this site and it helped us a lot :D now my fiancee and I are going to celebrate our 2 years anniversary the same day that I will be flying to the States which will be on Feb 11 :) and we have everything set for our wedding on March 30, If you could still wait for your second trip then that would be great :) but I guess if you two already decided to start the petition now, then go ahead I guess, it's just a couple of months difference. I had my interview last Jan. 6 and most of the couple who used the K1 visa also met online ;) and none of us got denied :D you just have to provide sufficient evidence regarding your existing relationship and also your fiancee must meet the poverty guidelines :)based from my observation if you have all the necessary documents ready then there is no reason for you to be denied ;) GOOD LUCK TO BOTH OF YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!! AND WE WISH YOU ALL THE BEST IN YOUR RELATIONSHIP ;)

I think in some ways you're preaching to the choir when it comes to this forum. I'd say that quite a few people here have relationships that began on the internet and extended into real-life, myself included. So no worries about having to convince us about it.

For the I-129F, all you have to do is prove that you have met sometime in the past two years. Passport stamps, boarding passes, flight itineraries, photographs, hotel receipts, etc. are really the way to go with this. A single visit is enough as long as it's well documented.

As for continuing relationship, that would be something you would need more at the consulate level at the interview. You can always send it along with your I-129F, but it is not required documentation at that point by any means. Sometimes they ask for it at interviews, sometimes they don't. My suggestion if you are going to use chat logs is to write a letter/attachment signed by you both stating your full name, and your online identity. You can use chatlogs to show continuing relationship, but edit out any bits that might be a little too private for the eyes of a stranger.

I suppose we were lucky and maybe due to our age not sure but we had to supply just photos sent 8 and 2 affidavits from people who knew of us and our relationship and impending wedding. We were never asked nor did my now hubbie send boarding passes chat logs and so on cause he by passed all that lol. Also had to send a letter of our plans so intent which he also forgot  which is why we got an RFE but I sent them all the info and we were approved within 2 weeks.

We met also on line darl and only knew each other less than 6 months to decide on K1. I came here Sept 2009-NOV, came back again March 2010-June, while 129 processed for close to 3 months and then back in Sept 4 2010 for our wedding. So a lot of people meet on line you just have to be lucky and know it is the right person and pray that they will be at the airport to meet you on your first visit which all my friends freaked about lol  But I knew he would be there never had a doubt and he is the best thing that has happened to me. Good luck and file you have enough evidence .

Hello,

I did not meet my fiance online, but plenty of people do and it's completely no problem. Keep all evidence you can, the passport stamps/boarding passes and anything while you visited your fiance is essential. Like TwoCats is saying, you have the documentation to prove you met in person within the last two years and you will have plenty of time to collect proof of ongoing relationship while you wait for the petition to be approved.

For Skype records on the Mac....Open Skype, go to the Window menu up top, and select History....you can print this out...it has the time, date, name, and duration...but mine didn't print out normal, so I used the Grab program to capture the screen shot and that printed perfectly. :)

Welcome to VJ and good luck!

Thank you so so much for all the replies!

I guess I'm so used to hearing stories about how people meet by chance while traveling/studying/working abroad etc.

You've all been very encouraging and it makes me happy to hear of so many successful stories.

lol I'm not so sure I have even that many corresponding emails. We literally are on skype or gmail from when we wake until sleep and get some chat time in between work breaks etc etc. But I have all the other proof etc etc.

you just have to provide sufficient evidence regarding your existing relationship and also your fiancee must meet the poverty guidelines

I've had a steady job as a teacher in CA and my last 3 income taxes reflect this. :)

I suppose we were lucky and maybe due to our age not sure but we had to supply just photos sent 8 and 2 affidavits from people who knew of us and our relationship and impending wedding. We were never asked nor did my now hubbie send boarding passes chat logs and so on cause he by passed all that lol.

An affidavit from two people who know about our relationship sounds like a great idea. Is there an actual form for that? Or is it just a letter with an inked signature and notarized? I could get a member from each of our families. :)

Thank you again so much everyone! I think this became my new favorite site. Seeing so many people support each other and what not is great. :D:D

You are worried about admitting to meeting your hunny online? Welcome to the club! There are many of us on this site.

I have talked to a few, be it meeing in chat rooms, through dating sites, World of Warcraft, or myself through the X Box.... It doesn't matter how, just that its true, and every one of us have some sort of story to tell.... Mine is about operation human shield, and we laugh every time it comes up...

But just enjoy what you have, and just know it will get stronger and better once the distance is gone... that helps me get through the days apart..... And know that all of us know what its like, and will be here to listen and try to help if there are any questions.

hahaha Aw thank you so much! I was more worried about providing enough evidence.

But now that you mention it...we do laugh about how one day we'll tell our kids how we met...and it was over an online game. My parents don't know that's how we met. But they didn't ask many questions either. hahaha. My mom's taken a liking to him. I'm sure she'll freak out at me when she finds out. hahahaha.

Thank you for the encouragement :)

I'm going to hijack this thread real quick.

My Fiancee has scans/photocopies of all the plane ticket stubs (making copies right now of the last trip). When she goes in for the K1 interview will the photocopies suffice or will they want to see the original stubs?

She also has the eTicket that the travel agency sent me for the last trip which shows the full itinerary (the eTicket is just a scan of the paper ticket, I never received that one).

I already went there. Saved all the information. Didn't save a few receipts but the use of my ATM shows up on a bank statement anyways. All other tickets/receipts were paid in cash...so I'm not sure how that can be helpful as it's not linked to my credit cards.

Thanks so much :) lol. I think patience will be my biggest test. It usually is :D

Hi everyone. Great site here.

Hello,

We met online with my Fiancée too. Now most of people meet online and it does not affect on K1 at all.If you have all your evidence then no worry. You can visit your fiancee one more time if want but two weeks it is enough because we had meet for two weeks too :D

Good luck.

This site is really awesome! Love the support and all the information available.

Me and my fiance met online too...and we've known each other for 5 months now and decided to start the K1 process.

He came to visit me once, last December for 10 days and that's when he proposed and we got engaged. I guess we don't have too much to show either. We sent in copies of the flight ticket, boarding pass, engagement ring pics and receipt and receipts of a tour we took together and about 20 something thumbnail pics of us together in Malaysia with my friends. He didn't get a chance to meet my parents yet though and i don't know if that is a big deal? I know they place a lot of importance on family involvement.Well anyway, we're waiting anxiously for the NOA2. My heart goes out to the rest of you who are waiting for your other half to come join you. This is really hard! So we all deserve a pat on the back for persevering! It's all worth it in the end.
