i have the same question of Fermant: but my case is expedite , how long it take to get an interview ones your case is in the consulate?

US Consulate/Emabassy schedules the interviews based on the application load. In my case(I expedited for USCIS error) it took 1 month for them to schedule the interview in India, at the same time it took just 15 days for Xelance. So, i would say it depends from country to country.

My case has been approved for expedites on 28th March but my case is still with NVC. I am not sure if expedites really help on my case. I fear that expedities would not slow my case further. How long it takes for NVC to send your documents to Embassy after approval of your expedites? Thanks

Hi All,

I know there have been several discussions about TAX Filing.

So now i know my wont make it here before April 15th , so what is the best option :_

1) Extend my Filing Dates ( but i think this requires SSN too , if I am not wrong ) . OR just extend as Single and than file as Couple.

2) File as Single and than later ammend as married ? Is this ok ? Essentially I am lying that I am Single.

3) Married Filing Jointly with W7 ( ITIN application ) ?

Which is the best .. Please advise.

Thanks,

Babaa.

If you don't want to apply for a W7, there's also a 4th option: married filing separately. In the SSN field, just put NRA (Non-Resident Alien) for the foreign spouse. You won't be able to file online though, this way or married filing jointly. And your tax refund won't be as high if you do it this way; married filing jointly almost always has a higher tax refund. Although you can always amend the tax return once your spouse is in the USA and gets an SSN and you can change it to married filing jointly and get the higher refund. It all depends if you're willing to do a little work for the W7 or not. Plus, the deadline for taxes is April 18th, so I'm not sure if married filing jointly is even an option for you right now as I don't know how fast you can get everything together.

I would not do option 1 or 2 as you're filing wrong; you're married, not single.

#1 is best IMO...but I guess it all depends on your interview date. You do not need a SSN for your spouse if you file an extension...just write NRA (non resident alien) in that box.

7/2/10- NOA1

2/9/11- NOA2 (transferred to Texas)

NVC

2/28/11- case number received

3/2/11- Paid AOS bill

3/5/11- Paid IV bill

3/12/11- expedite to Bogota consulate approved!!!

3/14/11- left NVC to Bogota for further processing

3/17/11- received by Bogota, emailed consulate and was told to send DS-230 and DS-2100 (packet 3)

3/18/11- packet 3 emailed to Bogota consulate, email confirmation on March 23

When did you submit your tax return? Wondering when my husband should be expecting his refund and whether or not we'll have time to request his 2010 tax transcripts for the interview...
