Varsity

61 North Avenue Northwest

Atlanta, Georgia 30308 ph: 404.881.1706

Think back to Rudy Vallee and his sweaters and megaphone, then forward past a depression and a world war to the "American Graffiti" era, and you'll be able to place the general sense of The Varsity. It has been the hangout for dozens of generations of Ramblin' Wrecks from Georgia Tech since 1929 -- it has a component that's a real drive-in (wait for the tray to hang on your car window), and wafer-thin hamburgers that you remember so fondly. Varsity is a diner that focuses on an American menu. Expect the average entrée to cost under $8.

Eating & Drinking: Open for lunch and dinner.

Ways to Pay: Cash Only

Hours of Operation: Sun-Thu 9a-12midnight, Fri & Sat 9a-1a

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Ah yes....the Varsity. Best heartburn in town! As soon as we get a general consensus, we can get this shindig planned. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Hey Peggy,

Joe and I are going to be somewhat in your neighbourhood tomorrow - Callaway Gardens (Pine Mountain area) is having their Hot Air Balloon weekend so Joe and I are meeting two other friends there to enjoy the day. We are planning to get there before 9 am since that is half price admission. It is probably far too short notice but if you two were looking for something to do, it would be great to meet up with you. We are having a picnic and will have lots of food!

How about if we arrange for a VJ party sometime in October -- enough time to plan something and enough notice for everyone to be there? Maybe some rec center over there? Someone's apartment complex's clubhouse? Non-Atlanta people (like me) would also like to attend :-)

Most of us are non-atlanta. and to be honest I would rather have the gathering outside of Atlanta.

Is it time to take a poll? Who has set one up before? Or are we "talking" too much and not "doing" enough :)

Planning one can be extensive, but if we plan to meet at a restaurant or someplace like that then it's a matter of calling the place, giving them a time, date, and number expected.

If everyone wants to meet up and do something, like an activity, then suggestions are needed. :)

I'll start...Stone Mountain...not in Atlanta per se, large enough that we could all meet on the lawn and if we plan it early enough in October, we could all stay and see the Laser Show one last time.

Hey Karen, I wasnt on here because our computer wasnt working. So my step daughters friend just fixed it for us. See ya in chat soon................... :D Things are going great here. Love that picture of your and Joel.

Well isnt that funny. Roger and I went to Callaway Gardens on Saturday. We only stayed for a couple hours. I found it really hot out :P We walked around some and watched the Balloons for awhile. We only live about 20 mins from there. So we go quite often. Plus Roger has a Corporate Card from his work that gives you a seasons pass. Hope you had fun...........

We had a great time. We got there early in the day to get the half price entrance then watched the balloons giving rides until they deflated them for the day. We spent the rest of the day visiting several of our favourite spots - the heritage gardens, the butterfy pavillion, the Sibley Horticultural Center, etc. - had a great picnic - and then storm clouds moved in about 4:30 so we drove the backroads home. Most of the day was lightyly overcast so it wasn't too hot overall. There was a triathalon going on in the morning - I suspect they found it plenty hot regardless. It must be nice to be so close. We wish we were closer, although driving by the backroads is really nice and we go through a lot of small towns.
