Someone calls my cell phone to asked for my wife that person could not pronounce her name correctly. Being 95 percent asleep, I told her that there are nobody by that name with my number. She said thank and hang up. The only people that now this number and my wife information is the US government. Anyone encounters this before?

ya, HCMC has FRAUD unit there, one of the regular things they do is to call the visa beneficiary in the USA.

My wife's case is not schedule for interview yet. The woman has a Spanish accent, so I don't think it is HCMC.

What time would they normally call? It was 3:20PM my time.

I called the NVC and they said it is not them. USCIS does not keep track from people calling customers.

Well the accent has nothing to do with it. A as long USCIS/other has a position open overseas any US Citizen regardless of background can apply for work there if hired.

When you have people who work for the fraud prevention unit i think call would be at random times.. to include the weekend. Many of these workers are probably salary based and work around the clock... it's not a sales call.

When you submit a case to USCIS they have a form they use to classify cases and pick up on hints like age difference/ culture etc and could (without your knowledge) refer your case to the Fraud Prevention Unit who will deal with your case... that's my say.

Where is your wife currently located..? Darnell might have an answer for you.

Answer the phone every time and be polite with them.. likely was someone from NVC doing a check.. I got a call from NVC asking for my ex.. they denied who they were...

When we were in AP @ HCMC they called me at 11PM and asked a bunch of questions.. initially would not say who they were but when I said I need to know who I am talking to at that hour and about the questions being asked.. they fessed up..

They downright lied when they called my MIL...

They can call at any stage of the process... if they call its because they need to find out something... If you ignore them.. they wont find out what they want and it could end up costing you a great deal of time waiting for them to get the answer they want...

This is exactly my concern. I want to deal with it instead of ignoring it.

There is one other explanation that person to call for my wife. I enrolled my wife in adult school near my home. I gave them my wife's name and my number. They are supposed to have enrollment tomorrow but force to cancel because of the snow. Maybe, they call me to inform of the chance. I can only guess and theorize now. The number was blocked, so they is no way to confirm this. I am going to call the school tomorrow to make sure.

I wouldn't worry about it. You said they called your number asking for your wife...who is in Vietnam. You answered the call correctly that the number they called wasn't your wife's number. Case closed. If someone called my cell and asked for my wife I would say the same thing. If they wanted her number I would then dig deeper. Scammers are everywhere.
