Tell us a story how you beat up Chuck Norris. Come on.

they both mutually knocked out the other one, so it was a tie.

So you prefer a handgun for home defense?

the initial energy of the rifle bullet is some 10 times more than the handgun anyway,

When folks tell me how puny my 5.56 is out at distance I remind them it's still packing the same foot pounds as the .45, give or take a few.

there are times when it would be nice to punch through something solid to hit whoever is hiding behind it.

That's why god invented the 12ga. slug!

diquish

Is that the Queen's English? Kind of like adding a U to neighbors or labor?

If you can find a slug that is hard enough. Sabot rounds, however, will punch though engine blocks.

Typical 12ga. slugs (big ol' hunks of lead) will penetrate most walls, car doors, etc., with no problems.

I'm not really sure why you'd want to shoot through stuff for home defense though? Are you going to shoot through your own car to hit an assailant cowering behind it? And anyway, if he's outside... why are still you shooting at him? (Assuming he's not shooting at you.)

I have a buddy that insists on using his AR for home defense. While I see the merits of it, I argue all day long about the practicality. Now... if folks start shooting at me from outside there's no question I'm going to the AR over anything else. He argues the ability to rapidly engage multiple targets. I remind him he's not a Delta operator or on the SWAT team and "multiple targets" in his home would probably be no more than three guys. I don't think I've ever heard of a squad-sized home invasion and in any event, I'm still pretty comfortable with 7+1 in my 12ga. because like the .45, you don't really need to make follow-up shots when you hit 'em with the big boys.

For my money, there's no better system to use for self-defense of the home than a pump-action 12ga.

ETA - In case you couldn't tell, I'm not a big fan of handguns when a long gun is available. I'll carry a handgun if I can't carry a long gun.

I wasn't talking home defense, so, who cares, right? I am not worried about home defense -- not really an issue in my neighborhood. My weapons are out of sight, unloaded, and out of mind. Only a paranoid maniac keeps a loaded firearm at the ready 24/7.

I used to fire a lot of slugs in my younger days at various targets, and a lead slug will not do to iron what a jacketed round will do in most cases. What a shotgun will do is put out a lot more lead every time you put the trigger compared to a pistol, or rifle.

Now, if I was worried about home defense, I would think a baseball bat should do the job.

Ditto, same here. Anyone faced with serious threats to their home should man up and get a real job that allows them to afford living someplace nice.

Vermont? It is nice BECAUSE we have guns.

Where is "not nice" and why? Explain.

They have lot's of guns in DC and Oakland, especially the not so nice parts.

OK. So why is Vermont nice with lots of guns and DC and Oakland are not? We know it isn't "the guns". What is it? How would you address the problem? What, exactly, is the reason that people in DC and Oakland cannot handle the freedom to carry concealed weapons without a license?

DC and California do not allow ANYone to carry loaded concealed handguns without a license. Vermont does. Explain the difference.

They don't need no stinking license to carry a concealed weapon. They live the second amendment.

Brilliant non-answer. Typical.

Vermont is safe BECAUSE anyone can carry a gun legally. This means law abiding, decent, normal people carry guns. Not just criminals. Law abiding, decent, normal people far outnumber criminals. You can try to rob, assault or murder someone here, but they may shoot back, or someone else may intervene. There is just no telling who has a gun. Best to go across the lake to New York, or take a drive down to Boston for unarmed victims, as the criminals do.
