Sorry, but you fail again. But thanks for the stereotype. Seriously, when was the last time you went to a gun show, the range, or even shot a gun period?

Speaking of stereotypes - there's an awful lot of nerds (not to be confused with geeks) who own guns. The guys that got picked on in school. Nothing is more empowering for them than to wrap their cold, sweaty hands around a large, metal phallus that can plow down all those jocks that gave them snuggies.

Wow, that was kind of nice for the jocks to give the nerds these:

Sorry, Mike, but you don't qualify as one of the gun geeks. An enthusiast, maybe, but not a geek.

The .40 is actually an excellent cartridge. For whatever reason, there has been some constant attempt to supplant the .45 since it was introduced in 1905 and adopted by the US Military in 1911. It is pretty much an ideal cartridge for killing bad people, which is what it was designed for. I guess someone is always trying to take the top spot but so far, the .45 is ideal.

The .40 was developed from the 10mm Magnum, the 10mm was adopted by the FBI as a "better mousetrap" but proved to be too much and they quickly settled on a reduced loading. The reduced loading would easily fit in a smaller case and the smaller case would fit in a 9mm sized handgun rather than the larger .45 The .40 was the result.

The .44 magnum is really too much gun, if there is such a thing, but is difficult to handle for inexperienced shooters. And it is no longer the "world's most powerful handgun" and probably doesn't crack the top 10

The .45 is still the top rated self defense cartridge.

You seem to have contracted a case of Booyah Syndrome. This is characterized by an inability to grasp statistics or to use them in contex.

Rob and Mel will now explain to us how Canada is safer than Vermont.

I consider myself a "shootist"...one who shoots. Or a firearms enthusiast. Not a geek. Mawilson is right, geeks and guns do not mix.

Who? Nice imaginary stereotype. If I made the same conclusions about women, blacks, gays...whatever, you would have a clinical perjorative for me. It is OK for you to say this about gun owners though.

Well, that would be the dichotomy of living in Vermont. You should get out more often. The shooting range that I go to from time to time (my employer is quite generous in allowing it during work) is frequented by many whom I'm sure you would consider geeks. But then again, looking at the pic you have up, i'd say the same about you. My point is you don't have a clue how to use statistics in context. It's really not that hard, yet you seem make it an excruciating endeavor.

No answer.

Vermont is safer than Canada. The crime rate of Vermont is lower than the crime rate of any province of Canada. Here is the context...you are safer walking down the street in Vermont at any time, day or night, than in Canada. Those statements are true.

Gary, thanks for proving my point for me. Hope that extra chromosome works out for you.

How many times will you answer...without answering? Personal insults do not make your case.

the task is simple. Vermont allows anyone to carry a concealed and loaded handgun without a license or permit of any kind. Vermont has a lower crime rate than any province of Canada. Simply show that those facts are wrong.

Either it is corroding, or you need to go see your proctologist.

And incidently, in your little film clip. Indiana Jones is using a S&W M1917 revolver, 5@ barrel chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge in "half moon" clips holding three cartridges each to headspace the rimless cases in the revolver. The same .45 cartridge I use for self defense, most of the time. The depiction of what happens to the swordsman is accurate and the reason the .45 is favored for self defense. The M1917 was ordered by the US military to supplement supplies of the M1911 autoloader in WW1. After the war many were sold as surplus for low prces and represented a really good value of a quality revolver at low prices. No doubt that would attract a practical guy like Indiana Jones.

M1917's were made by Colt and S&W, but in the movie they showed a pretty good close up of the revolver when he tossed it in his duffle bag. It is the S&W.

Thought you might like to know that.

If green sticky stuff is leaking from your ammo, is that a bad thing?

Not really. It is verdis gris, latin for "green growth", and is oxidation of the copper in the metal clad bullets. It is the same as the green growth on copper pipes, etc. Wipe them off and shoot them.

It is more common in humid, damp climates. During the Spanish American War, Americans accused the Spaniards of using "poison bullets" because so many were found with verdi gris all over them. Based on the bacteria count in that grunge, they may have been poison, but firing them through people's bodies was the main risk factor anyway.

Now he works for google and started buying guns a couple of years ago eventhough he doesnt hunt or target practic

A collector. By far the majority of my guns never get "used" for hunting or shooting. No more than a stamp collector mails letters letters with his stamps or a coin collector uses them in vending machines. YES they need to be real, functional, intact and complete. Coin collectors don't collect play money coins.

Judging someone to be a nerd because one does not understand their interest is simply ignorance.
