I like to be super nice to all shady looking characters I encounter. You know..... compliment them on their tattoos, missing teeth and weapons. Oh, and give them money right away to defuse the situation.

...or you could squint your eyes and do your best Dirty Harry impersonation while brandishing your .45 because that's one sure way to get respect.

But, that is not the most powerful handgun in the world. I am not even sure this is:

The .45 is considered the ideal size handgun by most gun geeks here. You've butchered the punchline over a detail only a geek would care about.

...but for the gun geeks, here's some trivia:

Dirty Harry's gun is supposedly a Smith & Wesson Model 29 revolver, chambered for a .44 Magnum cartridge. In the film, the gun is shown as being capable of sending assailants flying through the air, even when shot from a distance, however, in reality the gun does not produce such dramatic results. Additionally, the .44 Magnum round is not considered to be a practical caliber for urban police force use due to recoil (which makes target re-acquisition difficult) and over-penetration issues, which greatly increases the likelihood of the bullet going through its target and injuring bystanders. The actual gun used on set by Clint Eastwood was reportedly not a Smith & Wesson Model 29. According to a story circulated by a member of the studio's prop department, Smith & Wesson did not have a Model 29 in stock at the time, and so a Smith & Wesson Model 57 chambered for a .41 Magnum cartridge was used. The Model 29 and Model 57 are identical except for minute differences in bore size, chamber dimensions, and exterior markings, none of which are visible in the film. Fans however, have claimed that in a close up at the end of the film, the gun carried by Eastwood is in fact a genuine Model 29 chambered for a .44 Magnum. The close-up clearly shows the markings "44 MAGNU," with the final "M" blocked from view.

Considering that no final 2010 stats are available for either country, one has to wonder how you came to that conclusion.

Your "logic" is stunning.

The facts don't fit your theory so you try to dismiss the facts. Vermont allows ANYone to carry concealed, loaded handguns and always have since becoming the 14th state. That means that Canadians visiting Vermont to get medical care, cheap airline flights, and avoid 15% sales tax can carry handguns here if they want and if their US friends will loan them one. Alos any person visiting from another state may carry a loaded concealed handgun.

Vermont is safer than Canada. That is a fact. Vermont is safer than any other state in the US and any province in Canada. Vermont is safer than UK. Safer than Australia. Those are facts. We know what the crime rate is in Vermont because it doesn;t take long to count to FOUR and divide by 6. (600,000 population divided by 100,000 for the crime rate)

You do not have to like it Kricket. It is just a fact and you can't change it by ignoring things you would rather not think about.

Sorry, Mike, but you don't qualify as one of the gun geeks. An enthusiast, maybe, but not a geek.

A gun geek is an oxymoron. Geeks don't have guns, and gun owners are not geeks.

They may look the same, but they are very different.

You seem to have contracted a case of Booyah Syndrome. This is characterized by an inability to grasp statistics or to use them in contex.

Sorry, but you fail again. But thanks for the stereotype. Seriously, when was the last time you went to a gun show, the range, or even shot a gun period?
