"Until further notice Cuban post offices cannot keep accepting any type of mail for the United States," the Cuban postal company said in a statement read on state TV. It apologized to customers for the inconvenience.

The article can be read here:

This gives me such heartache, as our phone calls are pretty short, email is difficult for my love to access (long lines at the post office where the computers are), so letters were very important to both of us. Seems like our two countries are not going to even begin talks about this until SEPTEMBER.

oops, should have previewed the title of this post better - obviously I meant Cuba, not Duba..........:(

it is rare that i can ever communicate with my fiance in holguin, by phone, e-mail, nada. i have to fly down there. it seems the cheapest and easiest way to communicate. what i'm wondering is, how did mail work for you? when we write to each other it takes literally 2 or 21/2 months for both of us to recieve each other's letters. did you recieve letters faster?

Hi Valexer, I was on Visa Journey this morning and saw your post - it used to take a month, then it went to 2 months - now they have just cut it off completely. So no more snail mail. We email, but he has to go to one of the few computers at the post office and stand in line (sometimes a very long line) to email. I am sure there is the same setup in a post office or somewhere in Holquin, but it won't be easy. Not expensive though. We talk on the phone but the connection is sometimes not great. So, yes, it is very hard and this is such a long process it makes it harder. I have a friend who texts and that works well for them. My fiance does not text, the phone just can't handle it - that might work for you, although the messages have to be very short.
