My First Post, not really sure where would be the best, or correct place for this question. Mods, if this needs to be moved please do so and I appologize.

I am a USC, live in Medellin (three years three months, Colombia, married for two years plus to a Colombiana with a 12 year old son. We do not plan to move or live at anytime in the U.S.. We would, as a family, like, at some point in time, to go to the U.S. to visit family and friends. I have read most of the info about the K-3 visa and have a good idea about the application of that process. BUT, since we do not intend to live in the U.S., that path presents certain problems, obviously. My wife's worry is that many people here are not approved for a Tourist visa. Three women that she knows were turned down, all three have U.S. husbands that all live in the U.S.. I told her that is one of the reasons that they were turned down and that the difference is that I LIVE HERE. I also know that it is entirely possible to have her and my son apply for the Tourist Visa AND not be approved. Monday I will call the embassey in Bogota and ask if they can give me any type of difinitive answer, good luck with that.

Any opinion or knowledge on this more than welcomed. Thank you all for this website, tons of REAL WORLD info.

Micky

There are no guarantees but I believe you having strong ties to to Columbia will help. It is up to your wife to show strong ties to her country but to overcome the fear of her visiting with the intent to remain it would help to show you have strong ties to Columbia also. Copies of leases/home ownership, your work contract or a letter from your employer would be a big help.

All three women that were turned down were applying for tourist visas. They applied for them so they could visit their husbands in the U.S., also all were doing this before they started their K-1 apps.

I am retired here, so have no employer. We do own our house were we live, also a apt that we rent. I own no property in the U.S. My wife's entire family lives in Colombia, son in school here etc. I could write a letter for her interview, but there is no guarantee they would even read it, or by their rules that they have to.

Thank you for your replys.

K-3 is no longer an option. You would have to file for a Cr-1 spousal visa which requires intent to live in the US. Since this is not your goal, the tourist visa is your only option

Good luck

since you are living in colombia for three years and married you can apply for direct consutae filing DCF at your embassy, it's faster then filing from the us....your three friends that have husbands in the us they can file the 1-130 cr-1,for there wifes to come to the united states ... the k-3 is no longer in use no more.

the K-3 visa is unattainable since 1 FEB 2010. Keep reading, please.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Seeing that you dont have intent to live in the US, tourist visa is the only way to go. You will just need to show STRONG ties to Colombia as was stated by earlier responses.Good luck!
