Administrative Review/AP How are You Coping

Whoa! My husband just got an AP today and I am freaking out! We are talking about selling acreage I just bought, canceling the house plans I was scheduled to sign for at the end of the month, and my moving to be with him.

I do not know how some of you have waited YEARS in AP!

One year is enough for us, we're too old to be wasting our lives living apart. I begged him to give up his career and come to the US with me, it's only fair that I do the same to be with him.

We have waited a year and are now in AP limbo. We'll give them until July when my apartment lease is up and then I am selling everything and moving to be with him. The consulate will have to deal with me from that moment on when I go to get my visa renewed, have to do my taxes, or whatever other services they are supposed to provide.

Apologies if I state in a comment that my husband and I have been together for years & years. It's just that I can hardly remember a time when he and I were not together.

Ahhhhhhhhhh!!! We are currently in Administrative Processing with no time-lines to guide us!

My husband is looking at cars in Trinidad for me as his wish has come true! Me a Trini-Wife!

BUT

I will call DoS weekly to check the progress and I will not give up hope.

July of 2011 is the cut off date for us, when I will either start construction on a home here in the US or return to Trinidad to be with my husband.

Cybele,

I'm so sorry that all your plans have been put on hold because of AP. I can see that you are both shocked and upset by the way the embassy has treated you and your husband. I wish I could tell you how long your AP will last but nobody here can do that.

The members of VJ are here for you. We will support you through this difficult time. I call the Dept. of State every week to check on my case. You can call everyday if it makes you feel better. Stay busy and most of all don't lose hope.

My husband is a lot better at handling his AP then I am. I asked him today what was his secret. He told me he knows once he has the visa he will be living Pakistan so he is using this time to visit with his family and friends. Perhaps you can plan a trip to see your husband. I haven't seen mine in almost 2 years.

Please keep us informed about your case. When you get out of AP and get your visa we want to celebrate with you.

Yesterday I emailed the embassy again just to prod them but didn't think anything would come of it...and they responded that our AP was over and he had to make an appt to pick up his visa! So, I would be a squeaky wheel even at the embassy level, because I don't know when they were planning to tell us if I hadn't emailed them.

I emailed the embassy to see if I could get some information since my husband got nothing from them. I was sent a form letter that said:

Under section 222(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), visa records are confidential. Questions as to whether a visa application was made or a visa was issued or denied should be addressed to the applicant. In the interests of confidentiality and privacy, we do not comment on individual applications.

U.S. law states that every applicant for a nonimmigrant visa is presumed to be an intending immigrant unless he or she can prove otherwise. Visa applicants must demonstrate a residence abroad that they do not intend to abandon by providing credible evidence of sufficiently strong economic, professional, family and social ties that would compel them to leave the United States (U.S) at the end of a temporary non-working stay. Please note that all applicants for non-immigrant visas must qualify on their own merits and cannot rely on the assurances of third parties.

Please note that a supervisory officer has reviewed all denials. Previously refused applicants are welcome to reapply, however they should only do so if there has been a significant change in their situations that may warrant visa issuance.

We hope this information is helpful.

I'm curious to know which brainiac thought it acceptable to send me a form letter for NONIMMIGRANTS that basically states that 3rd parties have no bearing in visa applications? My involvement in this IMMIGRANT process is at 100% because without my involvement there would be NO PROCESS. Ineptitude, pure ineptitude on their part.

I called DOS this morning and my husband is still in AP. I'm starting to get so discouraged. When I started this visa journey I never thought it would take this long or be so hard on me. There have been good things that have happened along the way like getting our I-130 petition approved in only 4 months and then finding a co-sponsor that didn't know us. He is a friend of a friend. He just became a Citizen and was willing to help a fellow Pakistani.

I'm feeling very sorry for myself right now. I miss my husband so much and it's almost 2 years sense I last saw him. I'm feeling like a divorce would be easier than going through AP. In Michigan if you don't have kids you can get divorced in 3 months where with AP there is no knowing when it will end.

I'm trying to exercise and make new friends. I'm trying to stay busy but I'm not coping very well right now. I'm going to Pakistan in July to see my husband. I should be happy but all I do is cry. July seems so far away.

My husband and I have been in AR for over 2 months. My husband had his interview July 15, 2010. We were told by the CO that she wanted a different co-sponsor.

why did they ask for a different co sponsor?

I heard from the embassy a couple days ago. They basically said don't worry this is a mandatory procedure now and since it involves getting information from other international agencies the time in AP depends on how fast the other agencies get the info back to them. One other thing is that the embassy is conducting the additional review so I believe it's a good thing (meaning our case didn't have to go back to Washington).

I am so sorry to hear of your wait on AP. My fiance and I are on the same boat. Just like PurpleSky, last time I called DOS they told me it is a good think that our paperwork was not sent back. I was told it is still in AP. It has been four months for us since they put my fiance on AP.

There are days were I want to hop on the plane and go see him too. We have been apart for too long as well. But I remind myself it is almost over and he will be home soon.

Keep praying and having the support on VJ helps a lot. It has kept me sane through this unknown stage. Please keep us updated on your progress.

Best of luck! and remember you are not alone.

They said our original co-sponsor had too many deductions on his tax return. They went by his prior year tax return even though he had a new job making $40,000 a year. They felt that all his deductions would put him below the poverty level.

I am also trying to find ways to cope with this nightmare that is called Adminstrative Processing. My fiance had his interview in October 2010 and now we are going on 6 months of AP. If I knew that it would end in a couple of months I would be so happy, but I have seen other stories of AP lasting 2 or more YEARS. This makes me very depressed and I really don't know how to get through this for another year or more. We started the K1 process in April 2010 and I got through last year by going to school. I am running out of ideas to pass the time....

All I can say is hang in there, we all have down days. But the end result is worth the wait. My fiance says to me "Someday all this will be just a memory, so hang in there." His situation is much harder at times and he gives me comforting advice. He has been in AP for 4 1/2 months.

This will be over soon, for nothing lasts forever. My prayers are with you and with all who are in AR or AP stage. May it be a quick one.

I've done some hard thinking and I've come to realize some important things. My husband has never complained about our situation except to say he misses me and that he prays we will get our visa soon. He never argues with me or has expressed any regret that he married me.

I am blessed to have him. The fact is we could be in AP for many more months and I need to be strong for both of us. I will hang in there. These days I am enjoying life and happy despite being in AP.
