What can I say.... he fought a few times at football matches, like every other red blooded English

male.... this was long ago in his stupid testerone-driven youth. Also, he was deported from Belgium back to England after fighting at yet another football match.... Also arrested for pub fighting/drunk in public kinds of things... God, I make him sound like such a monster... hehehe. He's really calmed down since being a dumb young guy... but I worry now.

Is this anything I should panic about? I am reading info on 'police certificates' but no clear answer on anything that will specifically bar him from eligibility to marry and live here....

Thank you in advance! :(

It's a judgement call for the authorities.

The only thing you can do is submit his police certificate and hope for the best. The fact that he caused trouble in a different country and was deported isn't terribly helpful, but there's not a great deal you can do about that now.

BTW fighting at football matches isn't a 'majority male' activity...jsut the actions of the few who ruin things for the many....having said that though, he could always become a Philadelphia Eagles or Raider Nation fan...he'd fit in very well (for the Raider Nation he'd need a scary skull costume though).

Seriously though, I hope you get this sorted out - if he has a letter from the authorities attesting to his good behavior now that would be helpful I'm sure.

Okaaaayy...

I have no idea what "Raider Nation" is... but I meant soccer, not 'football'. Anyway, yes, I know it doesn't

help but he's just told me that it was over 6 years ago... and apparently, being arrested and thrown in the tank means almost nothing over there.... he says as soon as you 'sober up' they send you home... so in other words, he's never had charges filed or anything of that sort, and has no 'record', other than the actual arrests themselves... I guess you just go home the next day.

Wish it was that easy here...

I didn't mean to make it sound like all Englishmen fight at Premier matches... but from what I've learned from dating one, it's a hell of a lot more common than here... so, sorry. :D

Well, getting deported certainly will show up on a record of some sort, somewhere. Maybe you should get the advice of a lawyer in your case.

Email the US consulate (london) and ASK - dont guess - and right now you dont need a lawyer IMO - just email the consulate in London and get a more qualified opinion.

If they can't help THEN you may need to think about getting a lawyers advice

digbeezgirl,

I've seen lots of posts from UK applicants with prior troubles. "crimes of moral turpitude" are a problem which sometimes can be overcome with a waiver, but I'm not sure what you're describing would fit in to that category.

Chu v. Cornell, 247 F.2d 929 (9th Cir. 1957), cert. denied 355 U.S. 892 (1958). Administrative case law has characterized moral turpitude as "a nebulous concept, which refers generally to conduct that shocks the public conscience." Obviously, offenses such as murder, voluntary manslaughter, kidnaping, robbery, and aggravated assaults involve moral turpitude. However, assaults not involving dangerous weapons or evil intent have been held not to involve moral turpitude. Conspiracy, attempt, or being an accessory involves moral turpitude if the underlying offense involves moral turpitude. There is administrative and judicial case law holding that any crime having as an element the intent to defraud is a crime involving moral turpitude. See Gordon and Mailman, Immigration Law and Procedure, § 75.05[1][d].

If he's been a good boy lately, and you don't try to hide anything, you'll probably be good to go, since I see that a lot of people are approved through UK even when there were a few legal problems.

Best of luck,

Hope this helps

I guess it was the day before the Germany/England Match (Euro Championship 2000) in Brussels,

basically the Englishmen went mad and the whole city was rioting and finally the police had just had enough

and arrested like 4,000 Englishmen.... they all had to get on planes and go home...

After that, some officer Special Branch came around his and told him not to attend any more foreign matches for the next 3 years. He hasn't had any trouble whatsoever getting in and out of the US, and has travelled extensively all over the world since... for tourist reasons... so I can't imagine this would have any impact, but I just thought I'd ask to cover all the bases. Thank you for your help. :)

Wow.. sounds like one heck of a scene! Besides the fact I'm no sports nut, that is another reason I avoid these soccer events when I'm abroad. People get really nutty.

I'm sure I'd be really nervous about the whole thing with interview coming up if I were you, but I think you'll be ok. I just had another online friend with a recent arrest for minor theft in UK get approved without waiver.

PERSONALLY Id say he MAY be ok. I know of a few guys that I used to worked with who were arrested for football hooliganism. They were deported from Europe. I know at least 2 of them have been to NYC since then, travelling on the VWP, which technically they weren't meant to do.

Has he applied for his Subject Access? Mine took about 30 days or so to arrive, I was worried that one or two magistrate court offences would be on there (driving), but it came back clean.

If the worst grief he's been in with the police was Euro 2000, and he wasn't charged with anything, Im GUESSING that it may come back clean.

A family member of mine works for the police and she says certain (minor) CONVICTIONS only stay on record for 5 years.

this is not a problem as i see- as i try to avoid fights as adult-as much as possible- becasue u can get arrested sued and other things-- so its just not an option as an adult. but being very young and at sporting events and in situations with other young males that have been drinking - just putting you self in this environment often can cause an unavoidable fight as u might have the need to clearly just defend yourself..

however- its usually the instigator of the fight that is arrested - as your fiance has clearing multiple issues here its sounds like maybe he has the problem.. however - i would have to read the police report.. - if he clearly mentioned as the person responsible for causing the disruption - they will view him as a problem

additionally men with violent tendencies during drinking can often put a woman in harms way -- i would certainly evaluate the details of these indescretions carefully....... as they may have consequences for you and the K1
