If Finns are so damn happy, why does Finland have the highest suicide rate in Western Europe?

Because whoever decided what's on the list has never been or lived in Finland.

Besides... business-friendly?And Finland? In the same sentence? I would not want to have a business in that country - I would not call that place business-friendly, or happy for that matter.

The winter is a killer there - or for that matter anywhere where it's far enough in North.

But more than that, I can't deal with the mentality over there - or at least when I lived there ages ago as a kid... You aren't supposed to show how you feel (they even have a saying "who has happiness should hide it" more or less). And if you want to show how you feel (if it's negative), it's totally ok if you're drunk. If you're drunk you can't be held responsible for the stupid things you say or do... (no, you chose to get drunk, so you should be responsible for the outcome).

Sure, free or cheap education, and breederific healthcare system. Pay 60-80% of your income back as taxes, and enjoy the education and breeding-related tax benefits.

Sure, there probably are happy people over there, but they hide it very well.

If I'd have to rate the happiness of the countries based on the people I've met (and worked with), I'd say the top three places would go to Cayman Islands (and Caribbean in general), Netherlands and Norway. For some reason, a lot of Dutch and Norwegians seem genuinely happy, despite their weather being about as miserable as the weather in the countries surrounding them.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

While it seems contradictory at first glance, maybe the same thing applies here as to income levels. It happens that some places have both a high percentage of millionaire/billionaire as well as people in poverty or bankruptcies. Either that or some people figure on quitting when they are ahead?

So we're in bizarro world today? That would explain why you hate california so much and love alaska. I mean seriously, who wouldn't want year round tundra, poverty, plentiful methamphetamines, and government leeches?

If you wanted to get rid of the government leaches..than you cut the Federal funding to the natives (Eskimo's and Indian's) up here. I'm all for that as most of us are. It's the libs in the lower 48 that want these people subsidized, not us.

btw California is scenic, it's just the people there are totally out of touch with reality these days. They are shooting themselves in the foot. I can't wait until that state defaults and just maybe...they might get a clue.
