Chinook and I have had good luck finding the ingredients for Filipino dishes in the Seattle area.

One of the places we shop for Filipino groceries is at Fou Lee market on Beacon Hill, at the corner of Beacon Avenue South and Alaska Street.

Another place we shop for groceries is at the new Seafood City at Southcenter. Also, there is a Tokyo Tokyo, as well as a Chow King, Jollibee, and Red Ribbon at that location.

Ranch Market in Kent at the Great Wall shopping center also has Filipino groceries.

Our two favorite Filipino restaurants in the Seattle area are the Kawali Grill in Rainier Valley at Columbia City, and Inay's on Beacon Avenue South. There's also a good Filipino bakery one block from Inay's called Delite Bakery.

Maybe you have tried some of these places.

I've been Delite bakery, Ranch 99, and Seafood City (thanks to your update last October!). Seafood City is where I go for fresh blood...I have cravings for dinuguan every so often. :yes: My wife and I tried Chow King, and was somewhat disappointed. Nowhere near the same as Chow King in Philippines. Jollibee was pretty good. Red Ribbon represented pretty well. I love their coffee crunch cake! We haven't tried their Tokyo Tokyo yet, though.

Thanks for recommending Fou Lee market! We'll definitely try that soon! Thanks again for all the recommendations!

I hate hot dogs. Is there a big difference between Philippines hot dogs and american ones? I didn't eat any when I was visiting the Phils, but noticed they wrap them individually there. My fiancee and her family love hot dogs. They want to eat them in everything, even for breakfast. If they don't taste the same here, then I'll need to find the ones she likes. Where do you find them?

The only ones we have been able to find that taste and have the closest to consistency of Filipino hot dogs are the Martin Purefoods ones. Have only found if at Super "Q" Mart (yes, Q) and Kabayan food marts. They are not individually wrapped here in US as in Phils. But are red and same consistency.

I enjoyed trying lechon kawali when I was in the Philippines for the first time. it's got a nice salty flavor to it like some American meats. We love our pork in America =).

Pork / Chicken Adobo Recipe

Estimated cooking time: 50 minutes. Adobo is the most popular Filipino dish enjoyed by all classes. Adobo is typically served with steamed white rice.

Adobo Ingredients:

1/2 kilo pork cut in cubes + 1/2 kilo chicken, cut into pieces or

choice of either 1 kilo of pork or 1 kilo of chicken

1 head garlic, minced

1/2 yellow onion, diced

1/2 cup soy sauce

1 cup vinegar

2 cups of water

1 teaspoon paprika

5 laurel leaves (bay leaves)

4 tablespoons of cooking oil or olive oil

2 tablespoons cornstarch

Salt and pepper to taste

3 tablespoons water

Adobo Cooking Instructions:

In a big sauce pan or wok, heat 2 tablespoons of oil then sauté the minced garlic and onions.

Add the pork and chicken to the pan. Add 2 cups of water, 1/4 cup of soy sauce, vinegar, paprika and the bay leaves. Bring to a boil. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes or when meat is tender.

Remove the pork and chicken from the sauce pan and on another pan, heat cooking oil and brown the pork and chicken for a few minutes.

Mix the browned pork and chicken back to the sauce and add cornstarch dissolved in water to thicken.

Add salt and/or pepper if desired

Bring to a boil then simmer for an additional 5 minutes.

Serve hot with the adobo gravy and rice.
