I am trying to help a friend. Here is the information. LPR has been married since 2006. She filed for her hubby in 2010. Her case was completed a month ago. She wrote the NVC to ask about an interview date. The NVC's reply was:

Your inquiry has been received at the National Visa Center (NVC).

The applicant's name has been placed on the list of documentarily qualified cases awaiting the availability of visa numbers under the numerical limitations prescribed by statute. The designated representative of this case (applicant, petitioner, or attorney) will be notified of an appointment date as soon as the numbers have been received. The applicant should NOT make any travel arrangements, sell property, or give up employment until the US Embassy or Consulate General has issued a visa.

An immigrant visa is usually valid for six months from the date it is issued. It may be used to apply for admission into the United States any time during its validity.

Case Number: KNG2010XXXXXX

Preference Category: F2A

Your Priority Date: 15Mar2010

Foreign State Chargeability: JAMAICA

Case completed at NVC on 16 Dec 2010

How much longer will she have to wait for an interview (weeks, months, or years)? I understand that the spouses of LPR's are not eligible for an immediate visa. Should she apply for US citizenship to expedite the process? She just became eligible for US citizenship a few months ago. Please advise.

As the case is already complete, this case now only need PD to be current.

In her current LPR status, she needs to wait 6 months to 3 Years for PD to be current. Not possible to guess approx waiting period for LPR spouse in this current situation.

BUT .... if she become USC, after that it will take 1-3 months to get visa. Summery is, If She apply for Naturalization now, it will take her about 6-8 Months to become USC and then need another 1-3 Months for spouse visa processing, so total confirm waiting time 7-11 months(in Current Situation). Best option Now - Just apply for Naturalization immediately.

Remember.... current situation may change any time.... so better act immediately.

Wishes the best

According with the most recent Visa Bulletin For February 2011, category F2A is beeing process with a PD of January 2008. This means people who filed their petition back in January 2008 will be able to get a Visa in February 2011. So there you go, they waited around 3 years… right? … So if your friend’s PD is March 2010 then I would estimate around a 3 years waiting period, but this can change for the better or the worse at anytime.
