I am trying to help a friend. Here is the information. LPR has been married since 2006. She filed for her hubby in 2010. Her case was completed a month ago. She wrote the NVC to ask about an interview date. The NVC's reply was:

Your inquiry has been received at the National Visa Center (NVC).

The applicant's name has been placed on the list of documentarily qualified cases awaiting the availability of visa numbers under the numerical limitations prescribed by statute. The designated representative of this case (applicant, petitioner, or attorney) will be notified of an appointment date as soon as the numbers have been received. The applicant should NOT make any travel arrangements, sell property, or give up employment until the US Embassy or Consulate General has issued a visa.

An immigrant visa is usually valid for six months from the date it is issued. It may be used to apply for admission into the United States any time during its validity.

Case Number: KNG2010XXXXXX

Preference Category: F2A

Your Priority Date: 15Mar2010

Foreign State Chargeability: JAMAICA

Case completed at NVC on 16 Dec 2010

How much longer will she have to wait for an interview (weeks, months, or years)? I understand that the spouses of LPR's are not eligible for an immediate visa. Should she apply for US citizenship to expedite the process? She just became eligible for US citizenship a few months ago. Please advise.

It will take years for the PD to become current. As she is now eligible for US citizenship she should go ahead with that as that will speed up the process tremendously. Spouse of USC do not have to wait for visa # to be available.

Citizenship next step!
