Forgive the simple question...but do we REALLY believe a "war on terror" can be won? I mean, is terrorism a new thing??? hmmm

Terror is not new. It's cropped up before in various forms in many different conflicts throughout history. It doesn't last forever, though. Sometimes the 'terrorists' win and then those particular terrorists go out of business. Sometimes, the 'terrorists' lose and they end up dead, in jail and/or just melt into the population.

Terror in general can not be defeated but a particular group of terrorists who seek to achieve a particular goal can be defeated.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Which is why it shouldn't be called a "war on terror"...they are just buzz words used to put fear in people's heads.

The terrorists we're fighting against are pretty scary people.

You should be afraid.

But since you don't like the name, propose an alternative name for it. One that doesn't scare people. I don't think you can. Either way, it's war. You can name your opponent anything you want, 'war' is terrifying.

Unless, of course, you're one of those who suggest we aren't even at war. At which point we devolve into semantics.... that's really an interesting argument, though. On one hand you have what is clearly war.. let's say WW2. On the other, the FBI tearing up the Mafia. Not war but strictly law enforcement. But they were scary men with guns, too. Our current 'war' is somewhere in the middle. You can call it war, or anything else, but don't think it isn't scary. It is.

On one hand, there is the war we (the American people) wish our government would fight.

On the other hand, there is the way our government is actually fighting it.

The former is the war on a certain group of terrorists who act towards a certain goal. Make no mistake, those terrorists do exist and our government should fight them. I hope you are not suggesting we should not.

The latter is a clusterfukc. No doubt. Is control involved? Of course it is. But the answer is to vote the clowns out of DC, not to close our eyes and wish the terrorists away.

That is why I like this Democratic alternative. They recognize that a real enemy does exist. But they also offer a good alternative to how our government fights it. I personally feel the Democrats deserve a shot at this.

true is that AS. but the feeling amongst a segment of the population is that the current admin uses a legit threat to take away more rights from the american ppl. the rights of american ppl are a very valuable asset and needs to be taken very seriously. fighting wars is a serious business, but america's armed forces are more than up to the tasks. they just need leadership that won't lead them into foobar situations.

I agree.

What scares me the most is the fringe element on the Left that wants people to believe Halliburton manufactured 9/11 and that there really are no terrorists except on our corporate boards.

That is why I like this Democratic plan. It comes from the left and it recognizes that a real enemy exists. That's a great start.

I wish them luck

Call it the War in Iraq and then explain how we got from 9/11 to there? Terrorism/terrorists is too vague and ambiguous.
