Alright everyone question for y'all...so married in September but didn't change my name with SSA until now...

I submitted my name change (in person) at the Social Security Office with my EAD card 2 weeks ago. I haven't yet received the card and have called SSA two times now to check on the status of the name change. They are saying it may take up to SIX weeks to verify my immigration status and thus change my name with SSA... Just wondering how long this has taken for others...six weeks seems LONG!!

I'm currently have the same issue. I applied Dec 3rd. I have my GC so there wasn't a status issue BUT USCIS hadn't changed my name on the system to my married name so that's why they had to do manual verification.

I called the 1800 number but they couldn't even see the request for the change so I was told to contact the office that I did the change at. After speaking with someone at the office he told me that the officer that took my info didn't take enough info and I need to go back to the office with my greencard 'cause he needs something off it and THEN they're process my case.

Tony works 12 hour shifts so we haven't had a chance yet 'cause the office is an hour away (been a week since I found out what was missing) but I'm a bit ticked off about it... So yeah, for me it's been a while (even with a GC) but it's because of a SSA and USCIS error.

Thanks guys I will wait then! Only other thing...I'm supposed to receive my Green card soon, should I go to SSA with my Green card as soon as I have it to update this status (get "work authorization only with DHS approval" off the card) and perhaps they'll be able to speed up the name change....or will this FURTHER slow things down?

Does it matter if you have that removed? In a couple years when you go for citizenship you'll be going back tehre with your citizenship cert - they can remove it at that time.

When you start a new job, you're going to have to present your GC anyway - they'll kow your authorized to work.
