Sorry, I can find bits and pieces of information about exactly what I need to do in a few different places, but I can't find all of the information at once. My wife just got here last week from the Philippines. She got her green card a few days ago. Social Security will come automatically if she checked the box, correct? I'm not sure what else applies to us, and what doesn't. I have read that she doesn't need the EAD if she has a green card. Is this correct? Can anyone give me a link to the forms that I need for adjustment of status? I need adjustment of status, right? I could try to figure it out myself, but I don't want to mess this up, as you can probably understand. What is this AP I keep reading about? I really need a list/timeline of everything we need to do. If anyone has the time to lay this out or point me in the right direction, I would be forever in debt!

I'm not sure if I posted this in the right place. I apologize if I didn't. Thanks all!

Scott M.

There is no adjustment of status. She has her green card. Get the ssn and go get a job/ insurance/ bank account etc. Thats it you don't have to file anything.

Nothing for 2 years minus 90days. If she has a 2 year green card. She will file removal of conditions 90days before the expiration date on her card.

If she has a 10 year she can apply for citizenship in 3 years.

IF you come here on a K1 visa (finance) after marriage we have to apply for Adjustment of Status (AOS), employment authority (EAD) and advance parole (AP) if we want to leave the country and be able to return before our Green Card is processed.

As you came on a K3 (wife) visa you dont need to do anything or file for anything for just under 2 years if she received a 2 year green card. Then 90 days before onwards you apply for removal of conditions on that for a 10 year card.

I think you mean CR1, if they had a K3 they would have to adjust.

Thanks so much guys! You're awesome as always! I've never felt so thankful for a website or group of people in my life. You all deserve raises! I never would have gotten through this without you guys. Seriously, my wife and I thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts. If any of you ever come to the Seattle area, look me up, seriously!

Ah, last thing....her green card and social security number will allow her to work here?

She's got the green card - and it's really a cr@p shoot whether or not she'll automagically receive the SSN card - but - she can get into the SSA office, apply, and see what happens. Usually, 2 weeks after POE date, can get into a SSA office, apply, requesting the clerk to LOOK HER UP in the SAVE database. If no problems with SAVE, can accept the application, she can come back in 2 days and get the SSN, waiting up to 2 weeks to receive the physical card in the postal mail.

Massive edit above - but the rest of this blather can be useful to someone else->

Can ya verify that the VISA inside of her passport IS or IS NOT a K-3 visa? or a CR-1 Visa? or an IR-1 Visa?

IF NOT a K-3 visa -

there's a stamp inside the passport, that validates the visa to be used for 1 year as a temporary I-551 (green card) document.

2 weeks after the POE date, get to SSA, apply for a SSN, request a lookup in the SAVE database, and see what the clerk says. If all is ok, come back 2 days later, clerk will give her the # (but not the card, that comes in the mail)

AT THIS POINT - with her passport and the SSN (not the SSN card) - she can work. She'll be automagically verified with the e-verify system for any employer.

anywhere from 30 to 60 days after POE date, the green card will automagically arrive

2 weeks after applying for a SSN card, it will automagically arrive.

-----

If a K-3 visa - ouch - sorry, she has 2 years to apply to adjust status - and the result of adjusting status is the green card.

If she came here on a CR1 visa and already got her 2 yrs. green card,,she is legally able to work here.U don't have to process anything yet till 90 days before her 2 yrs. green card expires. That process is called "Removal Of Condition" of her status. You better start keeping records of your intermingling finances or proof that you will live or are living together as husband and wife(in the same roof) for that will be needed in the future when it's time for ur wife to remove her conditional status.
