Permanent Resident Status: removing the expiration

Hi Everyone,

I became a permanent resident of the US December 2009, but my card has an expiration date (2011). I'm worried about what steps I have to take next to have this removed. I'm assuming the office where I got my PR Card will contact me, but we've moved since then. So, my question is, what is the next step and who should I talk to about my change of address?

You will have to file a petition to remove conditions (ROC) by filing form I-751 and paying $590 fee. You will need to provide proof of a bona fide marriage. You can file 90 days before the expiration date on your green card. Once approved, immigration will send you a new greencard valid for 10 years.

If you mean any USCIS office, then you shouldn't assume anything as they normally don't notice anyone. However, I did (and some others also apparently) get a notice that my green card was about to expire. Kind of odd as they specifically said during the previous process that this would not happen and that it is our own responsibility to make sure it gets done.

So yah, they might, but don't assume they will. It is best to keep an eye on the timeframe yourself
