Lost greencard!! What to do

I wonder how many people turn up for there N-400 interveiw and to find out they have lost there P.R card..

By immigation law for the N-400 requirements you must have a "valid" P.R card or notice of action I-90 receipt to prove that you meet the N-400 requirements and that would have to be shown at this stage at his usc Interveiw.

I think at this stage of the O.P N-400 It's down to the I.O who interveiws him for his usc, but even that call is not upto the I.O he/she only can recomend you for approvel of your N-400 he/she then passes that onto his/her supervisor, then he/she reveiws your application for final reveiw...

All this is down to the O.P Local uscis office and how they deal with such policies....some is ok and let it slide some just see the $$$$ signs.

Im not sure even if a info pass would get his answer he wishes TBH as we all know, they can and do give out some poor advice also...

But if i was the O.P the very least i would do is get a police crime number/report, to take to interveiw.

Do NOT file I-90 for replacement GC - you're fine with a copy of it and a police report .

Sorry dude...but you can't put your hand on your heart saying he be fine....what could work for you at your local office might not work for others..

Again this is down to the uscis office the O.P application is at & the N-400 I.O interveiwer / interveiwer's supervisor..

The O.P can take his chances at interveiw i agree, but the safe way is to apply for a new card and get a I-90 receipt as just bob said it's as good having your P.R card there.

It sucks to pay all that money, i/we all agree but what can one do?

It depends on if the O.P if he wants to take his chances at interveiw and risk of delay his usc..

(4) Delivering Certificates When the Permanent Resident Card Is Lost .

No Certificate of Naturalization will be delivered in any case in which the naturalized person has not surrendered his or her Permanent Resident Card to USCIS. Upon a finding that the card is destroyed or otherwise unavailable, the District Director may waive the surrender of the card and the Certificate of Naturalization must then be delivered to the naturalized person.

This says that the district director has authority to waive the requirement to give up the green card if it has been lost, destroyed or unavailable.

Thank You for clearing that up...

My wife told me she had lost her Green Card several months back and I replied it's in your purse, right? Yes but I've looked three times and it is NOT in my purse. I suggested she let me take a look and she was so offended she took a deep breath and dug in again and surprise it was there all along. I'm sure you've looked and looked hard but look again. It's around somewhere. Maybe between the seats of your car or "maybe" tucked away in your purse.

Good Luck

My stepdaughter had her wallet stolen last month, they got a dollar, her drivers' license, a credit card that was deactivated within minutes, and a colored copy of her green card. New credit card was free, drivers' license was 14 bucks, well that dollar is lost for good.

But this is a problem all women seem to have, no place in their clothing to carry a wallet, here fashion out-rules common sense. Have to leave their wallet in a purse where its easy for someone to walk by and lift it. It's criminal what the USCIS charges for a replacement card. She should have her US citizenship shortly, one less thing to worry about. When I traveled with my wife, I carried copies of her passport and green card in my wallet. That won't be easy for anyone to swipe and always keeping an eye on her purse. Purses are stupid

I always minimize the contents of my wallet when traveling, hate to have to toss it in that basket, but keep a close eye on it. And what good is that toll free number on the rear of your credit card if its stolen? Need those numbers on a separate sheet of paper. Its not that I am paranoid, wasn't born that way, but made that way.

The guy said i should be fine as long as they approve my application and that i don't need to send off for a replacement! Guess we shall see

Yep like i said... at this stage of your N-400 application it' will proberly depend on the I.O & his/her supervisor on the day..some local offices let something like this let it slide & some don't.

You got a police crime number/report correct? well take that with you at interveiw, that may get you over this bump.

come back to this post & let us know what happens will you?

best wishes,
