I just want to share my experience on the citizenship interview that I had this morning while they are still fresh in my mind. My appointment was for 11am this morning. My husband and I were in the lobby at exactly 10:20. I got called by a a gentleman exactly at 11:05am. And by 11:42am we were leaving the parking lot.

My IO was well-mannered, courtous, and very professional. He had me raise my right hand for the swearing to tell the truth at the very beginning of the interview. The moment we both sat down, he started right away with asking me the civic questions:

~ Name one of the 2 largest rivers in the U.S? Missouri or Mississippi rivers

~ What do we call the first 10 ammendments to the constitution? Bill of Rights

~ We elect the President for how many years? 4 years

~ Who lived in America before the Europeans arrived? American Indians

~ When was the Declaration of Independence adopted? July 4, 1776

~ What is the name of the Speaker of the House of Representative now? John Boehner

Read: ??? I forgot But he made me read 1 of the 4 statements on the card.

Write: Abraham Lincoln is the president during the Civil War. Or something like that.

And then he told me I passed all 3 PArts of the Naturalization Civic Tests.

He then proceeded going over the details on the Application Form. I told him when we got to the part where I had to write all trips made outside the US, that I need to correct it to say 86 days instead of 83 days. I missed out 1 trip ( a 3 day trip to Los Cabos Mexico) He said its no problem when I explained why I missed that one out. ( I was sick when I was filling up the Form) I didn't even realize that I made the mistake until 5 days before the interview. He just corrected the Form to say the actual information. So don't be terribly worried about an unintentional mistake. Just be honest and explain the situation. He writes the correction using a red ink. And that is just to highlight the corrections, so to speak, from the original writing.

About that part where you are asked to write the children you have had. I only listed my own daughter. I told him I have 3 step children by my present spouse- Should I include them???? I told him, I'm not sure if I was supposed to include them. He said I may or may not. But to just have my own daughter listed there - it was fine.... He said, anyway the question says, " children you have had" something like that....

When all the questions on the Application were asked, he then told me that the last thing he needed to see was to see some proof that my spouse and I are residing together. So I brought out some papers like Car insurance, pictures, joint bank accounts, etc

At this time I felt very relax, shared a few friendly stories and answered questions about my work as a full time substitute teacher. He congratulated me and told me I passed and that I could have the Oath Taking the day after tomorrow- Friday Jan 21. I was so happy...

I thank God right away and looking back I told myself - it was a long road from the Philippine Embassy to this point, but it was a ride worth taking. Thank you so much to all the Visa Journey members who have helped me along the way. I found the love of my life ( Benjie) and I found peace and joy that living in this country has generously given me, to us as a family....

Good Luck To All!!!!!

Out of curiosity, what are the American Indians?

One may answer : "American Indians or Native Americans" to this question. As the name implies they are the native people belonging to tribes such as Navajo, cherokee, etc. with a rich culture very much described in books and movies. These several Indian tribes lived in America way before the first Pilgrims arrived.

During the Biometrics Appointment and if you sign in on those free Naturalization Classes in your local Library you will be given handouts/pamphlets/cd to help you study for this Test.
