A conversation in a PM was posted.

Is that a TOS? What if someone gave you great information in a PM and you quote them in a post? I did this to help others a while back not realizing it was a TOS.

Post any information obtained or originally transmitted in confidence or with the implied belief that the message was to be kept in confidence without the express permission of the original author of the communication. :) Here is the wording of the actual TOS violation involved:

Post any information obtained or originally transmitted in confidence or with the implied belief that the message was to be kept in confidence without the express permission of the original author of the communication. Additionally any direct communication (with the exception of publicly viewable Posts on the discussion forums) between administrators or moderators and a member are strictly prohibited from being Posted to the discussion forums or retransmitted in any way.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

The irony is that by banning LI for the signature, the mod removed the ability to remove the offending siggy. So had the mod been patient, I'm sure it would have been removed same day. Instead, it stayed up for 3 extra days.

Where's the logic in that?

Power trip gone mad.

Actually, the signature was removed by administration.

As Captain Ewok mentioned, the discussion that resulted from this has been useful for the moderators as well. We have dealt with a few similar incidents after this one which involved monitoring when the member had read the PM (or sending them an email if they hadn't read the PM within 24 hours) and acting based upon when they had received the request since they had read the PM. We also try to send any suspension notices through email now rather than PM so that the individual is aware of the reasons for the suspension.

Some of them do give you warning before action is take, but as AJ said, if you're on the list, then most likely not.

I've been suspended before without warning, and I'm definitely not a repeat offender, and I'm pretty sure I'm not on any "list". It sort of annoyed me. I got over it.

My husband was completely banned without warning.

The thing of it is, it would be nice to know that not only that you are suspended, but what you did to get there.

My guess is they thought he's a sockpuppet and didn't bother to actually ask.

He's definitely not that.

He may or may have not done a little trolling here and there, but it was all his own idea.

No worse than anything else I see here though.
