Need urgent good advise, Please

Hi everyone,

Has anyone attended AOS Interview at USCIS San Francisco office before?

I just received my interview letter and EAD card today. My AOS interview is next three weeks at San Francisco USCIS office California. The letter I got stated that we should bring all documents that shows evidence of our marriage, such as Utility Bills,Bank Account, Tax Returns and Insurance.

My problem now is that I do not have joint account with my wife, my wife has been paying all the bills with her name. I came into the states last september and I have not been working since then. My EAD card just arrived last four days.

The only documents that we can provide them now are, my birth certificate, her birth certificate,my International passport, our marriage certificate, our pictures, EAD card and Letters from USCIS. With all these, will they still need something else? Will they consider and approve our interview?

Please I need your good advise.

hi there,

I understand your situation, I've been there before too. I also don't have utility bills nor joint account or anything under my name.

But what I did (I'm just saying this based on experience) is that I printed our photos before marriage, wedding photos and after marriage photos.

Also, I showed mailed letters (from friends), packages, letters etc. that is addressed to me or both to me and my husband showing a proof that we both live in the same house. Further, I showed that bank statements showing my husband paid for my health insurance.

Until now all our utility bills is under my husband's name so just be resourceful and look for stuff that will prove your living together.

My wife and step-kids (and me) had our interview in San Francisco.

Everything you listed as evidence, with the exception of the photos and marriage certificate, are not useful for proving a bona fide marital relationship. Having mail addressed to your wife and you at the same address is only marginally helpful, but not if that mail comes from USCIS. If you have an easy interview then the photos might be enough. Probably not.

Our interview was easy, but the IO still looked through our photo albums, joint tax return (we even saved our meager refund check as a souvenir), medical/dental/life insurance policies, joint bank account statements, etc. To be honest, she (the IO) spent most of her time looking through our photo albums and asking questions about stuff in the pictures. I gave her all of the other evidence near the end of the interview in response to "What else have you got for me?", and she quickly glanced through it, asked if she could keep it (I said 'yes', all except for the refund check), and she put everything in our file.

She did want to see each immigrant's original birth certificate and passport, and she kept the I-94's. She didn't want to see my birth certificate or passport.

Do you have a medical or dental insurance policy that your wife is included on? Do you have a life insurance policy with your wife as beneficiary?

We have separate accounts, I maintain many things separately because I have assets and children from a prior marriage. I brought in a copy of my will, which names my adult son as executor but specifies the division of assets between the children and my husband. I brought our medical cards from work showing I an the insured and he is my spouse, I printed out the page from our benefits site that shows my dependents and their relation to me ( and the date they were added ) We had our marriage papers, the car insurance that has both names on it, his permit that has our address on it. I was able online to change my name on utility accounts and print out account data. I had my passport and work ID changed to my new name. I am sure you can have some of the above by the interview.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.
