I have a it of a complex story, ill try to detail it as bst i can!

m a Canadian living in canada, and my boyfriend is an american living in the US. we would desperatly like to be together but not wait a long time, its been long enough apart. we have a plan, and it is we are going to save up a few more months, and what we want to do is to have him come to canada here and live with me while he works on a work permit. we were thinking he can renew his work permit because all we need is a year out here in canada then we would like to file for the spouse visa right after he moves in with me right away. so when we get the spouse visa we can just pick up and go to the US by the end of the year.

http://www.workpermit.com/us/family_visas/spouse.htm

we got the info from here, and the process of getting the spouse visa doesnt take long it shows.

is this a valid idea? will this work what we are trying to do?

since he will be coming on the work visa i have a few questions:

does he HAVE to have the job offer before he comes to canada?

can he just come to canada as a visitor, look for a job then once he fnds a job THEN apply for a work permit then work?

how does he go about getting a job if he has no Canadian SIN #?

and finally

does he HAVE to have like $10,000 to show support for himself IF he already had the job offer? if he already gets the job he doesnt have to have that required amount to come does he?

overall, my question thesimple way is, can an american visit here, then get a jo then a work permit, then file for a k3 spouse visa for me WHILE hes living here then once we get it can he bring me to live with him in the US?

im only asking these questions because i cant find it to detailed online on all the websites and i just wnat to be sure! any personal stories like this would help to! THANKS!!!

the 'live and work in canada bit' is great -

but

I suggest, instead, that the USC file an I-130 petition directly to the Montreal Consulate, for Direct Consular Filing Process, instead of anything else you might think to plan about.

Also - we've a great guides section here - please train yer eyeballs UP, find the word 'Guides', click it, pick appropriate GUIDE, and study it, copiously.

Going forward - should you 'see' anything about the K-3 visa in the future, disregard it - as it is mostly unattainable since 1 FEB 2010.

Focus on a CR-1 visa, forget the K-3 visa, eh?

I assume depending on which consulate, I know in Georgia because I was there in person they thought I worked in that country.. They said would be faster, cheaper and less headache if it was done straight through the consulate. All countries have different advice.........

darkdancer - I assume nothing - as it's Montreal, there's a Canadien involved.

Are you ok ?
