Hello to everyone,

I'd like to ask to those that reserved the flight ticket prior entering the US with their Visa,if It's possible to buy a return ticket or you only can buy a one-way ticket. The reason I ask this is simply because of the price of the ticket..one-way tickets cost like 2 if not 3 times more then a return one! I want to highlight that of course I have no intention to come back until I will be allowed to,only to save money.

Thank you

You can buy a return ticket with no problem at all.

You can buy a return ticket, but if you are not planning to use it, you must have it cancelled. I've read a few posts where this was not a problem during the the K1 visa process, but an issue during the AOS process.

Buy which ever is cheaper. If you buy a round trip ticket, take the extra few minutes to cancel it or it may come to bit you during the AOS. I bought a round trip ticket with the return date in April--more than 90 days after arrival. Roza did get asked about why she had a round trip ticket on a K-1 visa. She just told them that it was cheaper to do it that way. I just went onto the Lufthansa website to cancel the return ticket and I will be keeping that confirmation e-mail until the AOS is complete.

Good luck.

I don't understand why buying a return ticket would be an issue at AOS. Whether you arrive by air, land or sea - with or without a return ticket is irrelevant. It has nothing to do with the visa or the process. If you don't turn up for the return flight the reservation is automatically cancelled by the airline.

Yes, I agree, it has nothing to do with the K1 visa process, but it does matter when you are adjusting status, since you are proving intent to live in the US permanently.

Here's one post that explains what can happen when you do not cancel your ticket properly: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/268029-returned-flight-cost-my-husband-his-aos/

Thanks everyone for your replies :)

I'll be sure to buy the ticket with a return date as far away as possible from my arrival one, just to add some redundancy after reading that post, and to cancel the return ticket once I'll enter the US.

Have a great weekend
