Perhaps we should vote for our religious leaders. I'll bet if their jobs hinged on the results of popular elections, you'd see them change their tune on a whole range of controversial issues.

Depends on if you read that statement the (scripturally, not necessarily a la Harris) valid way that God does choose the nations' rulers (including the specific way that voters choose in a democracy).

The closest thing to Cian's ideology occured in 1975 when Zulfiqar Bhutto visited a seer in Dhaka (on state visit to Bangladesh). When the seer made certain comments, Bhutto then said he would like to rule the country "by logic and a clear head, not religious mumbo-jumbo"; the seer then told him "your head will be cleared from you shortly". Two years later, Bhutto was overthrown and within another two judicially murdered after a trial rigged by the usurping Gen. Zia. In 1987, Bhutto's daughter had visited the same seer who told her she would rule "when mangoes burst" (which she did not understand until Zia's C-130 blew up--due to a crate of mangoes gifted to him by his successor as ACOS Gen. Beg which was loaded on at Bahawalpur).
