So it's not, "hey, we'd like to serve our country" it's, "we'd like for the country to recognize what we're doing."

Typical.

One has to ask, how long before the Americans with disabilities act kicks in too.

I know! You'd think that would be enough.

What they do is recognized. What they're asking for is special consideration to be recognized more often.

You are wrong on this one Slim. Read the article again. They don't ask for being singled out and treated differently. Just the opposite. They want to be considered on their own merits without restriction or special consideration based on gender. You should be supporting this.

Right off the bat, women have lower standards on fitness tests.

So what exactly do you mean "on their own merits"?

On their own merits would mean if they qualify in every respect except gender let them qualify. Not too complicated Danno... Oh...

I think you mean "not to realistic".

Do you have a rough idea what MOS's you would expect them to perform at the mens level... and which one you wouldn't?

Would you also require them to meet male height and weight minimums-maximums?

The AVERAGE man is stronger than the AVERAGE woman. But there is a great deal of overlap between the groups. I don't know you or your level of fitness. I think it quite possible there are women who can kick your A$$!! If a woman is qualified for a particular position her gender should not, by itself, disqualify her!!

I should have known that a thread like this would end up full of sexist, misogynist comments. Honestly I wish people would grow up.

Please, Duncan. It's P&R -- of course it's going to be filled with asinine crapola, as that's the currency here.

There is not 1 woman on planet earth that is qualified to be a Navy Seal.

If they can't meet the MOS's, if they don't meet min-max for height and weight, then they don't meet the position standards the same as a male with the same disqualifications. They should not be disqualified, when meeting or exceeding ALL other standards simply for being female. That is what they are suggesting.

I would not support lowering the standard qualifications but would support allowing women able to meet position standards being able to qualify if they choose to try.

Does every male qualify to become special ops? No. Does every male qualify to become a SEAL? No. But if a female can qualify should she be disallowed simply for being female? No.
