Hi fellow I-129F'ers,

So after 15 days of sitting, waiting and hoping everything was going fine with my petition, I've received the dreaded rejection notice in the mail today including the uncashed check and original I-129F packet I mailed to them on the 3rd of January. Reason given: 'application/petition has not been fully completed: Part B Address.' Talk about incredibly horrible luck!

Now the thing that has me scratching my head is that I've gone through the entire section of Part B with a fine tooth comb and have come up with only minor details they might be referring to. But it's all up to interpretation.

These are the possible reasons I've come up with:

Under Information about your alien fiance(e),

- Question 2 Address, Apt. # was left blank. Perhaps an N/A was necessary?

- State or Country: I put "MIDDX, GB". This is the abbreviated form used on all posts. Should it be written out as Middlesex, Great Britain? Also, as it says State or Country, should I just leave the Middlesex part out all together and just put Great Britain? Or put both as Middlesex, Great Britain?

On to the next page, Part B. Information about your alien fiance(e) (Continued),

- Question 15. Your fiance(e)'s address abroad, under State or Province I put, "MIDDX, GB" as before. Perhaps maybe it was the GB that threw everything off as it did not ask for country. Should I just leave it as Middlesex?

- Question 15 continued, for Country I put simply "GB", however should this be written out as Great Britain?

To me, these seems a bit nick picky, but then again I was prepared for this. Or at least I thought I was. Weeks going into the preparation of this packet and it's sent back with a minor detail wrong or missing in the address.

What are your folks take on this? And would it do me any good to give them a call to see if they can offer any specific help? Or would I come up empty handed? You'd think and hope they'd be a bit more specific, especially since two people's futures and a very special day is depending on this!

All the help you guys can offer in this matter is truly appreciated.

JP

PS - Each page returned to me has numbers printed vertically along the right side. Will I need to redo each page all over again, or leave things just the way they are, only including the changes made to 'Part B address' on the form?

I'd say write everything out - you may have just got someone particular who wants everything extremely clear. Always better to be on the safe side. Other than that, without seeing the form, I wouldn't know what else to say.

If no one can offer an answer that you're happy with, maybe a lawyer will look at that one page for a reduced fee?

Spell out the city where asked and use UK for the country and send it back in. Leaving apartment number blank is not a problem. The address is to be understood by an American, not a British postal worker. Down in section 15, there's room to spell out the complete address, city and province but still use UK as the country or United Kingdom, if it fits.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous

I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope we don't get ours back either, I'm scared now since I also abbreviated State or Province at Question 15. :(

These are the possible reasons I've come up with:

Under Information about your alien fiance(e),

- Question 2 Address, Apt. # was left blank. Perhaps an N/A was necessary? I left mine blank without issue. I believe on my AOS I put a line through it. It should be fine blank but N/A should be okay too

Abbreviations aren't acceptable because their computer won't recognise the location. The country will also be United Kingdom, not Great Britain. I know that you know GB, but most people think of the UK as the UK (and so do their computers when looking up countries)

As before, abbreviations aren't acceptable, Middlesex should be fine"

- Question 15 continued, for Country I put simply "GB", however should this be written out as Great Britain? United Kingdom

To me, these seems a bit nick picky, but then again I was prepared for this. Or at least I thought I was. Weeks going into the preparation of this packet and it's sent back with a minor detail wrong or missing in the address. Think of the letter being mailed from the US, if a postie here saw "MIDDX, GB" they would have NO idea where that was, what it meant.. they'd probably look for a US state abbreviation of GB. They might assume the sender had no idea of where it was supposed to go themselves and it wouldn't end up where it was needed. This address is for her for later to get her K1 stuff, you DON'T want them getting that wrong.

PS - Each page returned to me has numbers printed vertically along the right side. Will I need to redo each page all over again, or leave things just the way they are, only including the changes made to 'Part B address' on the form? Only change what needed to be changed

Random qn.. why is your flag German when you're saying the beneficiary is in the UK?

Questions answered above in red

**Note - I'm scottish. If I tell people I'm british they assume that means I'm English. Most have never heard of the UK as GB and those that have just assume that British means English.. like Scotland and Wales don't exist.

When sending letters to Germany you don't really need state or province, just the zip code and city, so I abbreviated RLP for Rhineland-Palatinate in Question 15, as it is also abbreviated like that here in Germany sometimes. Do you think that'll pose a problem too? In Question 2 when it asks for State or country, I only put Germany. I'm so scared now to get our application returned as well because of a minor thing like this. Damn...

Yeah you have to pretend that you're dealing with a moron (sometimes that's not hard during the process :S). Explain everything. Shorten nothing. For instance, I am from Victoria, Australia. We personally write "VIC" but I still write out Victoria when mailing stuff home. Heck, I usually write "road" and "street" instead of "rd" and "st" when dealing with official stuff too.

Have you ever ordered something online and when you enter the shipping address a little window pops up to "correct" your address? Think of it like that. You need to enter fields that a computer would understand and easily "translate".

Darn, now I'm even more scared. I hope it'll be fine, maybe we'll get lucky and the person reviewing our case won't be as nit-picky. There's still a chance that they'll accept it with an abbreviation though, right? With lots of luck, maybe...

As long as it's an obvious one yes. For instance the G-325A for the months I wrote "JAN", "JUN" and "AUG" etc those are obvious. Hopefully this time you'll be fine.

Let us know how you go

Thank you, I hope so too. I abbreviated the months too, that's how it was on the example form and I checked back and on the I-129F example form, in Part B when it asks State/Country, it says Australia (so I put only GERMANY) and when it asks for State or Province in Question 15, it says NSW (so an abbreviation as well, that's why I put RLP). I thought the example forms where pretty trustworthy *sigh*

Thank you for your help, I'll keep you posted. If everything went fine, we should get something in the next few days...unfortunately the servers at my fiancé's bank are down and so he wasn't able to check if the cash was checked since Jan 14th

I wouldn't be surprised if this ended up being a problem. It doesn't really matter what it's abbreviated to in your country. You're writing it for a random person to read.

:( Thank you for being honest. Man I could kick myself right now. I'm just confused since the example form on here abbreviates it too in the State or Province line. Not for Germany, but Australia, but it states NSW, so that's an abbreviation as well...

So do you think we should expect to get the package back in the mail? We haven't received any notification yet nor was the check cashed.

I honestly don't know, but I think you should be prepared for it to happen. Fill out new forms as soon as possible and write everything out in full. Don't panic. :) I am just saying, if I were a random adjudicator, I would have no idea what RLP meant.

You're right, like I said, I went by the example forms and thus assumed it would be OK to abbreviate State or Province, as long as Country etc. was written out in full. So I could just correct p.2 of I-129F but send in again all the other original pages and forms?

It must have been the country code, because they wouldn't know what "GB" is and there's a missmatch on the current country/home country of the fiance. Otherwise they don't really need the abroad address at all besides the embassy to forward it to, and it's a huge pain when you have to change it.

Also this probably never made it to an adjudicator, it never made it through processing at the facility.
