Hi,

There is my "story"...

I came to the U.S. as an au pair with J1 visa (July 14th, 2008) after 2 years I changed to F1 (status)-august 2010. I got married to U.S. citizen January 3rd 2010 and sent all papers. Few days ago I received I797C. Ive been here for 2,5 year and never went to my home country (I applied for student visa from here). I went to school from august till december and then transfered to another school which I started 2 weeks ago. I would like to save money (we owned apartment together one week ago) and cancell school. I read somewhere that it doesnt look "good" to quit school after such a short time. Ive been student visa holder for 5months. Should I feel "safe" if I cancell school now?

Thank you guys for any advice.

You can quit school. Remember: USCIS gets thousands of AOS applications each day, so they've probably seen every single scenario imaginable dozens of times. Quitting school is hardly something that will raise a flag.

I'm in the same situation. Came as an Au pair, switched my visa, and got married.

You can drop out of school because once you applied for your AOS, your F-1 is not in effect anymore. I'm still going to school, but only because my school told me I could pay in-county tuition with my I-797C. I really didn't want to quit school because I'm only a semester away from getting my A.A. and, well, I'm 26 years old, but like you, I didn't want to pay out-of-state rate anymore. If you still want to attend school, talk to you institution and they might clear the in-state rate for you. If not, you're safe.

:)
