I received my green card when I was 11 in 1997. My father instead of bringing my brothers and myself to the U.S. immediately (we were in Texas for about a day), he sent us back to Mexico and brought us to America in 1999 about two years later. When we were at the border (1999), the officer never asked anything, he just looked at the Green Cards and made sure it was us, and he let us in with no problems at all. I renewed my Green Card in 2001 (I was 15 at the time). I've been living in the U.S since then, I went to middle school, high school and then college, but I always had that concern when thinking about applying for citizenship. From what I understand, when you're a permanent resident, you can't be out of the country for more than a year, so now I'm applying for U.S Citizenship, but I want to know if that disqualifies me from applying? Can I be deported? What can I do?
