Can creating your own barcodes and using those actually slow down the NVC Process? Is printing the barcodes an yourself an accepted method by NVC?

Hi,

I here a lot of people saying that they create and print their own barcodes and stick those on the forms to send to the NVC. I mean, is this an accepted method by the NVC? Can this in return slow down the process if something goes wrong? I just want to have some input about this printing of barcodes method.

You cannot create your own barcodes. The barcodes have meanings. They link your case to the information at the NVC. How are you planning on creating your own barcodes?

You can print out the barcodes pages after paying the fees. These are pages provided by the NVC and State Department.

You must wait until your bill shows a paid status and the print the bar coded coversheet. These are encrypted to protect your identity and keep things organized within a complex system. I wish you well.

This was a link I got from James Shortcuts:

http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/DS-3032_barcode_instructions

Original link:

http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/Jame%27s_Shortcut

Read where it says "Step 0 (Before NVC)

That is where I got the whole generating and printing of barcodes.

Wow. I have no idea if making your own barcodes is a good idea or not. I would rather stick to the prescribed procedures from the NVC, rather than risk creating an incorrect barcode that could cause problems.

we did this - but that was over 5 years ago. the barcode was nothing more than a representation of your nvc case number. it contains no other information. you could download software to generate the barcode yourself.

i would have recommended this 5 years ago when we did it - but not sure if anything has changed now. jame's shortcuts were something we all contributed to through trial and error....

and if i recall correctly - i tried to send it w/out a barcode - so the barcode is simply used to scan the document in upon receipt. if there is no barcode, whoever is sitting there scanning the documents probably shoves yours to the side, and then comes back to it after they are done with their pile. or if it's completely automated, it gets rejected and is done manually.

it worked for me.

right around the same time, or shortly thereafter - james, was dorking with printing his own.
