Hi There,

Im interested in obtaining an H1B visa but I need advise on what kind of education I should have to obtain one. Of course, I know that I must obtain a job offer first but bc I didnt finish

school. I want to know how that will affect me. My goal is to obtain a job in radio, tv, entertainment, or journalism. Ie. XM radio or AccessHollywood. Here is a bit about me :

- canadian citizen

- 2 years at university for sociology

- currently enrolled in university after leaving years back ...still enrolled in sociology

- able to take an intensive broadcast journalism program that gives me a certificate (5 month)

or to take a journalism or radio tv degree ... another 3 years at least. (im in my 30s)

- 10 years as a club dj

- about 4-6 years on college radio and a few apearances on major radio statons and tv stations

- 1 year as a publicist

- 1 year volunteer work for a community television station

- celebrity gigs (award shows, concert afterparties)

Knowing all this.... is it wize for me to continue with a sociology degree or other?

finishing this degree will take 1.5 years. Is sociology not a good idea?

Any help would be appreciated. I would have to drop out of this program tonite.

Just went to see an immigration lawyer. wanted to charge me $5000 for the application. Said she wasnt

sure about the sociology degree.

Also spoke to us customs...they said it doesnt matter..its all up to the employer

Thanks!

For H1B check the elgibility on USCIS site

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=73566811264a3210VgnVCM100000b92ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=73566811264a3210VgnVCM100000b92ca60aRCRD

Not sure if your sociology degree would be considered as a specialized occupation, with tons and tons of American with same degree and filing for unemployment.

For a H1B the job must require a degree and you must have a relevant degree and/or work experience.

I have never come across a presenter.

one option maybe to make a name for yourself in Canada and look at the O1?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

H1B on Journalism..... I would say chances are slim.

I have known ppl who switched from Journalism to IT as chances of them getting a H1B were really slim.

If reporters are in short supply but really a great demand in the industry then it would make sense.

both vacation she mentioned DJ and Sociology would not stand very good chance on H1B.
