I am really trying to understand this process. I am a US citizen I started the filing process for my mom to come to the usa. I paid the AOS and IV fee to the NVC since December 2010. Now I am not sure if I should complete the AOS even though I was not requested my the NVC. Is the next move in the process in my court or do I just wait until the NVC gives me more information. PLease advice

Read the AOS and IV fee letter. It tells you after you pay the fees online, you are to go back to website after 3 days and download the bar coded cover pages, the AOS form (I-864) and IV form (DS-230). In addition, you are to follow the directions there.

You will not get anything in the mail.

SO should I complete the DS-230 form and mail it to Jamaica to have my mom signed it before sending it to the NVC? Will a faxed copy of her signature work?

I'm now home from work and on a pc as promised.

After you pay the AOS Fee of $88.00 AND the IV fee of $404.00 the next step is on you. You must go back into the payment portal and download the instructions/cover barcode sheet. You will gather all the Affidavit of Support and the Immigrant visa documents which also includes the police report. you can send in all at once or separate.

ALL of the signatures must be in ink (original) so a fax will not work. what you can do is to complete the form and then print it with the items filled in. otherwise if she signs the blank form you'll have to then fill in every thing with a pen.

If you require any more assistance let us know.

The NVC website states that "Available. Residents of Jamaica should apply for police certificates at the Ministry of National Security, 3 Oxford Rd., Kingston 5. They must present a passport, two passport-sized photographs, fee receipt, and evidence, such as a form letter of instructions to visa applicants, that the Embassy requires them to obtain police certificates for immigration purposes. There is both express, three-day service and a 21-day service"

So how will my mother be able to get the police record if the NVC or embassy didn't give here any document requesting it?

The fee receipt would be that of the $404.00 that would have been paid for the Immigrant Visa. You can print off the receipt and take it there. The NVC will not provide this but will be grouped with the "other" required documents to send in the IV application. Matter of fact i think your mom can just go straight to the East Queen Street (downtown) location and get this done.

Richardo, when his Mom receives her interview date from Kingston, she will receive that information in a form of a letter via email. This is the letter that the Mom takes to have her medical and PC done.

Well within the Yardie... it has always been noted that the medical could not be done without an interview letter, but the PC reports were being done w/o it since the embassy has been asking for renewed PC reports. So yes, they maybe able to obtain a PC without the letter, but not the medical.

I called the NVC earlier today and I was informed that once I start to send them documentation such as the AOS and others, they will send me a checklist of all that is needed and my mother can used that to get the police record.

My other question that I didn't remember to ask is about my brother who is 17 years old now. Does my mom just need to list him on the DS-230 form. The NVC website states that they shoudl be notified if the applicant has children under age 21.

You dont need the check list of ANY other documents now to get the police certificate. Getting a check is is only saying "your case is delayed." A check list is ONLY generated IF you send documents to the NVC and they are worng, missing files, etc. then a check list would be generated. You can also get a check list if the system isnt updated ontime.

Correct the NVC needs to be notified BUT the brother will be left back in Jamaica when your mother leaves. You brother will not benefit from your mother's case. Even if he was 12 and unfortunately there is no lawyer that can help. Your will have to come and inturn petition for him and currently it would take approx. 3 years unless the visa cut-off dates come closer to current which i think it will later in the year.
