It does NOT have to be a professional at all, you can translate them yourself. Same with official documents like Birth Certificate etc, you translate them yourself and just type in the bottom of EACH page of the translation :

I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and ________ languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled ______________________________.

I don't think the petitioner or the beneficiary can be the translator. I may be wrong, but I don't think I am.

You can still do the translation; just get another bilingual person to sign off on them.

I am sorry , but you are wrong on this one. Absolutely anyone can be the translator. I (beneficiary) personally did all my translations myself and certified them according to the standards, and I know a lot of people who did the same. No problem at all.

Are you filing K1 Fiance Visa? If so, where does it say we have to translate our letters from Fiance` (secondary evidence of relationship) in the instructions? I have not seen this.

The only translation of documents are the official required documents the beneficiary will submit to consulate for internview (such as, but not limited to, police archives, marriage certificate or divorce decrees, birth certificates, and military records of discharge if in language than English).

The copies only need to be certified and that does not have to be by a professional translator, just somebody who is proficient in both languages on a swear and affirm letter, signed, dated, address of person who certified letter and their printed name. Anybody can do this including the petitioner or beneficiary. You can find a letter of certification on the VJ Search if you haven't found it already.

Joy Joy, does she have to submit translation for secondary evidence?

USCIS I-129F instructions link here http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-129finstr.pdf, and I do not see this as requirement but I could have missed something. If the USC is the person filling out the application, then all required docs are already in English, right? I am now confused. She can file if she is USC,both are free to marry, there is an intent to marry within 90 days of entry into USA, and they have met in person in the last 2 years. I listed some of the important documents, but I didn't list all because they're on the instructions

• I-129F application
• G-325A from both (Pet & Bene)
• Passport 2x2 photos -- 2 of each
• Original letter of Intent to Marry signed by both
• Evidence of MEETING (Primary evidence not Secondary)
• Birth Certificate (front and back)
• Divorce Decree if applicable
• Name changes with copy of legal document
• Paspport copy of all pages
• Secondary evidence (letters, emails, chat logs) ** but where does it say this must be translated???**

Thank you for the information. Somebody who had a successful K-1 in the past told me this. My fiance is a professional translator, but I did not want to find out the hard way that she was not allowed to do this, so she had another translator sign off on them.

You are more than welcome. I am also a professional translator, and a K-1 holder. Just for your information: when after you marry your fiancee you will be filing papers for Adjustment of Status, the translation requirements will be the same: she CAN do everything on her own, and you do NOT need a single notarized or officially certified copy of anything. Just read instructions to each form (at uscis website)and follow them
