Experts say that barring the unexpected, Democrats will win control of the U.S. House of Representatives in November

More like don't understand the idea (I've had experience voting in elections--all in Canada, but never followed how they picked candidates). Still, I believe it's voter's job vs party's (how about bribing voters in a "safe" riding to by-elect a party-leader/premier who got defeated in his own, as happened in 1990 in Alberta--as another good reason for it?).

Generally, In Canada, candidates are selected by the riding consitiutincy association sometime before the elelciton is called (or after, if it's unexpected). However, the party leader signs the nominaiton, and can select whomever they want. Chretien did a lot of this in the later elections, that is selecting "star" candidates and "parachuting" them into the ridings he wanted to.

There have also been cases where a sitting MP has lost a nominaiton. Sometimes they rus an independents, like Chuck Cadman did.

I also like the voting itself better. Just a slip of paper and you mark who you want. None of these butterfly ballots, or voting machines that Patrick Kennedy claims and used to fix elecitons.

James Carville, now there's an unbiased opinion. LOL

He's a great political strategist ...

You bet

I may not agree with his politics, but I love his style. And anyone who's that good at what he does has got my respect.

Some other threads today were talking about hope, and this thread has given me my first glimmer of it so far. I really hope this is true. If not, I'm going to lose faith in Americans.

Barring an unexpected and big event, Democrats will win control of the U.S. House of Representatives in November and conceivably the Senate, too.

If the Democrats do take over it will be because of anti- Republican/anti-Bush votes, not Pro-Democrat votes.

Agreed.

I'll bet ya before election time, they will find Bin Ladden, they might know where he's hiding, same as the iraqi fellow. Talking about Christian values, all those people that got killed in Iraq and afghanistan( Oil Pipeline) so the oilman in Texas and the white house can get Richer, while the family of those soldiers mourn the lost of their children, died for for WHAT?

Whatever happen with Bill with Monica under his desk was a private matter, call it a sin but that sin didn't kill people.

Time for a Regime change here in Washington

Start with the House, Congress, then the white house at election time.

And? There is no major party that represents my opinions, but I know which one represents the fewest. And I want them out.

Unless your current Congressman is a Republican in a competitive district, it doesn't matter much what you want.

I guess one of the "unexpected" is of Dems doing internecine shenanigans (such as shooting off incumbent Joe Liebermann--it's generally a voter's job to tell the incumbent to leave, not the party's).

How can one vote for a part who throws their own people out just because they have a different point of view??? The democrats are starting to sound like the early communists and NAZIs...

So the party which 'apparently' stands for the extreme freedoms and liberalization of speech cannot stand someone disagreeing or having an opposing view to theirs, even if it's one of their own members...

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Fair is fair. Parties have a right to decide who will represent them in the general election. They never kicked him out of the party, they just told him he didn't get to be the nominee.

And it's not like the GOP has never kicked out an incumbent during a primary.

But you *are* American. Are you going to lose faith in yourself? :P

The whole idea is they are unified by their politics. What don't you understand?

Well if Billy boy hadn't wasted time maybe Bin ladden would have been caught earlier. What year did bush come into office?? What year did sept 11 occur?

PS. Sep 11 was planned numerous years earlier, that is during the time democrats were in office..
