There's a site called spokeo.com that's a new online USA phone book w/personal information: everything from pics you've posted on FB or web, your approx credit score, pics of where you live, income, age. Remove yourself by searching your name, find the page for yourself, copy the URL and then go to the bottom of the page and click on the Privacy link to remove yourself. Copy & re-post so your FB friends are aware.

Heh. I checked a couple of people - this site has VERY incomplete and some false information.

Such as rented homes are seen as "property", siblings are missing, addresses are several years old...

Not worth the worry.

I saw that mine had me listed as a parent....need to go looking for that child I didn't know I had

It did also say that I was a magazine subscriber and gave money to charity which are 2 fairly random things that were true

hah - they have nothing on me under my actual name, and have me listed as a 19 year old man living in India under my nick, hehehehe. There are several on line users who use my nick so that is interesting indeed.

Snopes has an article about spokeo.

While they have the "remove" feature, that doesn't seem to be functional, so I wouldn't necessarily trust it.

There are > 200,000 people with my last name in US, and my first name is very common. It does find a bunch of people with my name, none of which is (fortunately) me. Linkedin has dozens of people with my name, one of which correct and facebook has hundreds...

They (like that other spooky site, Sabasearch) grab info from public or semi-public resources and aggregate it. So even if their remove-service worked, the original sources leaking them out are still out there.

The website doesn't look too well made either. If you refuse to give the site cookies, it can't find anything, not even a John Smith.

And the whois for spokeo doesn't return any inviduals' names for the registration, but at least the address looks valid.

Meh.

A lot of the stuff on there like the value of the house you live in is easily found on other sites like Zillow
